“This was EMDR therapy. My first time doing it. Daniel was great at leading me through all of the relevant issues surrounding it. He was very supportive and gave guidance when necessary. EMDR can be very intense and it’s necessary for the patient to really dig in And do their part as much as they can. But Daniel made it all as easy as possible, and I strongly recommend him.”

“I am extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Dan. From our initial consultation, I appreciated his professionalism, kindness, and willingness to adapt his treatment style to meet my goals. I felt confident he was a practitioner who could help me make the positive life changes that I desired. That confidence was bolstered throughout our time working together. Dan approached each of our sessions with an open mind and showed time and time again that he is an effective listener by summarizing before and after each session. He was willing to mesh different modalities based on what felt right with me during that session. With Dan's guidance, I have learned a lot of new things about myself that I was unaware of before, and I now feel that I have a new set of skills to approach the challenges of life. I cannot recommend Dan highly enough.”

Getting to know Daniel Calabrese

Approach It takes courage to ask for help, and I start by offering a safe, supportive environment where you can address difficult problems. I specialize in Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy and draw on other approaches when helpful. Whether your goal is to live your more authentic self, make lifestyle changes, or stop stressful symptoms, I bring a balance of empathy and active skills to support you in living your best life. I hold a Master's in Social Work from the State University of New York, Buffalo, which informs my compassionate and effective approach to care.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) skilled in a variety of approaches. I have advanced training in Internal Family Systems Therapy, EMDR, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. IFS and EMDR are an effective combination that provides holistic and transformative therapy. We all contain different parts of ourselves that develop early in life. But as adults, we may develop internal conflicts, or reject or deny parts of ourselves. IFS helps people move from a fragmented, conflicted inner experience to one of greater wholeness, self-compassion and effective self-regulation.These frameworks and tools help to highlight and resolve painful experiences from the past and point the way to better paths forward.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first few sessions, I focus on listening and learning. It's a chance for you to get to know me as well and for us to begin communicating on the alliance we're going to create. I may ask a few focused questions on your history or current feelings, but mostly I want to get to know you and learn about your first goals. Soon we'll have a basic roadmap for using IFS, EMDR and/or CBT for your unique story.

When I first met Daniel my initial impression was, wow, he's so young. I also thought, for some reason, that they would match me with a woman therapist. I've been having therapy sessions with Daniel now for a year and I am so grateful that he's younger and enthusiastic about his work. More importantly he's a great listener and remembers what I tell him. He genuinely seems to care about me and making my life better. I'm also thankful that he's a guy because I think I've had to work out some issues concerning the men in my life. Better to talk to a guy than a woman about that. I tell him at the end of each session how happy I am that I found him. He's made such a difference in my life. I really like how he's able to take what I've said and reflect it back to me in a way where I can see things more clearly. I couldn't have found a better therapist!
I can’t recommend Daniel enough! From the very first session, I felt completely supported and understood. Daniel creates a warm, welcoming environment where I feel comfortable opening up and exploring tough topics. He is not only incredibly professional but also genuinely caring and insightful. Each session leaves me feeling more empowered and equipped to handle life's challenges. I truly appreciate his approach—tailored, empathetic, and always with my well-being in mind. If you're looking for someone who listens, guides, and helps you grow, Daniel is absolutely fantastic.
Dan has truly been a guiding light from our very first session. Having had less fulfilling experiences with other providers in the recent past, I almost immediately felt connected to Dan because of his calm and openness. He is well thought out, offers guidance to be introspective and helps to find tools to navigate life in a healthier mental space. He can also disarm you with his light and at times humorous demeanor which as someone who can get caught up in my own brand of anxieties helps to recenter and remember that the end goal is growth at a natural and healthy pace.
Dan is a knowledgeable, compassionate, understanding professional, I have worked with for several months on IFS. His insight, guidance and reassuring manner has greatly helped improved my understanding of myself.
I highly recommend Dan. He provides a safe and caring space for you to discuss anything that is on your mind. From everyday life to deep heavy topics, Dan is a great listener and will guide you to find insight.
Dan is a highly competent professional who excels at his craft. He is highly attentive and ensures that his patient feels heard and understood. More importantly, however, this detail oriented active listening allows him to draw impressive conclusions regarding the subtext of the patient's words. Furthermore, he is able to effectively utilize these deductions to provide meaningful insight, helpful advice, and useful action plans. Despite his impressive intelligence, Dan is the furthest thing from intimidating. He has a warm demeanor which makes it very easy to open up to him. He strikes a perfect balance of professionalism and casual, genuine human connection. He is excellent at allowing a patient to instruct him on how to treat them; however, he maintains control of the session and confidence in his own expertise. He doesn't placate, but rather adapts his own methodologies to the specific patient. It's clear Dan is very passionate about his work, and I highly recommend him.
Dan is absolutely wonderful! The first therapist I’ve worked with in a very very long time that I can be completely open and honest with. With no fear of judgement, I can bring literally anything going on in my life to the table, knowing I can trust any and all feedback is within my best interest. Even in the beginning, when I was unsure of my feelings about our sessions, Dan didn’t just let me fall through the cracks… He helped me know and believe that as long as I was willing to put the work in, he’d be there to safely guide me on my journey. I can only imagine where I’d be right now if I hadn’t started this process with him.
I have seen therapists for years. Dan is by far the best, most u distancing and easily relatable therapist I have ever seen. The things I was able to accomplish with Dan in one year was more than decades with other therapists. He is not only a great therapist, but a great person.
Dan is an excellent listener who gives insightful advice. He gives targeted advice of ways to think about things and exercises to practice that make a tangible, positive impact on my life
Daniel Calabrese changed my life. When I first saw him I was at rock bottom. I didn't think I had anything to live for, and seeing him changed my entire perspective on myself and my life. He helped me find myself, and helped me to find my confidence in my ability to make the changes I needed to make in my life. The guidance and support I received when seeing him was unparalleled, and I will forever appreciate the care I received while being seen by him.
Dan has been the biggest factor towards my improved mental health over the years. He’s an excellent listener and works well using different techniques to address problems. I’ve found significant personal growth over my time in therapy and owe that to his ability to relate + understand what I’m experiencing.
What can I say about Dan other than he is the best?! Not only did he give me my life back, he continues to guide me in order to keep making it better. I started seeing Dan in January 2023 during a very, very dark time. My life had crumbled in every way imaginable and coupled with pre-existing anxiety/depression, I was hanging on by less than a thread. Dan sat with me in my pain, was by my side pulling me out of my hole but most importantly gave me the tools and confidence needed to pull myself up and not fall back down. It has not been easy, and Dan has appropriately challenged me to dig deep. He balances the tough work with kindness, empathy and warmth. No matter what I have shared, Dan has been open, accepting, and non-judgmental. Dan was and continues to be my beacon of hope. I owe him my life and sanity. If you are ready to do the work and make significant lasting change, look no further than Dan!
