Dannon Mims, LPC

Psychotherapist
AK
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in both Alaska and Oregon with over 14 years of experience as a clinical therapist. I have worked with adults and adolescents experiencing symptoms such as anxiety, depression, parenting concerns, relationship issues, ODD, and ADHD. I also have experience in trauma-informed care. My career in mental health began in 2000, working in residential services as a psychiatric treatment counselor providing care to adolescent boys and girls. I earned my Bachelor's in Human Services in 2003 and worked as a case manager supporting children, youth, and families. I returned to school to obtain my Master’s in Professional Counseling from Southern New Hampshire University, graduating in 2009. Since then, I have worked as a clinical therapist in a school-based program. My counseling style is warm and personable. I believe in the humanistic approach and treat everyone with respect, kindness, and compassion. I use cognitive-behavioral, dialectical-behavioral, and motivational interviewing techniques, focusing on identifying and teaching resiliency. I am open to modifying my communication style to meet your needs. Often, I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in my practice. In your first session, we will explore what brought you to therapy and decide on the most appropriate ways to help you make progress. With CBT, we will examine how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences, and I will help you learn to change your thought patterns to foster positive emotions.
