Dr. David Callies, PsyD

Psychologist
WA
I'm a licensed clinical psychologist based in Olympia, Washington, and I provide therapy to clients throughout the state via telehealth. I work with children, adolescents, and adults, and I specialize in helping people manage anxiety, stress, and life transitions. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to support clients in making meaningful progress and starting to feel better in their daily lives. I take a flexible, client-centered approach to therapy, adapting to what each person needs. I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), as both help us build a shared understanding of your experiences and work together toward meaningful growth and healing. I’ve found that my style and approach tend to resonate well with teens and young adults who are navigating the challenges of life transitions and social pressures. These experiences can often show up as anxiety, depression, stress, or difficulty adjusting. I work collaboratively with my clients to help them move through these transitional periods, build confidence, and develop practical skills that support a stronger sense of self and a more hopeful, positive outlook on life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My communication style is calm, open, and approachable. I strive to create a space where clients feel truly comfortable sharing whatever is on their minds. I take pride in being a compassionate listener; someone who hears without judgment and meets each person with understanding and respect. I decided to become a therapist because I have always wanted to help people. Whether it was a peer counselor in school, volunteering in my community, or being a trusted and loyal friend, I’ve always naturally been drawn to helping people through difficult times. I enjoy seeing individuals become their best versions of themselves.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach to goal setting is centered around collaboration; working together to define what you'd like to achieve during our time together. We begin by building trust and helping you feel comfortable with the process of therapy. As that foundation grows, we’ll continue to set meaningful goals and check in regularly on your progress, always moving at a pace that feels right for you. In our first session together, you can expect us to spend most of the time talking about how you’ve been feeling lately, while I ask thoughtful questions to better understand your experience. This initial conversation is all about beginning to build a connection and giving me a sense of where we might go from here. Everyone is different, and I believe it’s important to truly listen before deciding what might be most helpful for you moving forward.
