David has over 25 years of experience as a professional counselor in private practice. He received his Master of Science in Clinical Counseling from the University of Nebraska Omaha. David is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Nebraska, where he served in various educational roles for over 33 years in the Clinical Counseling program, the last being Department Chair. He is also a professor in Mid-America Nazarene University's Graduate Counselor Education Department. David formerly served as the president of the Nebraska Counseling Association and is a member of the American Counseling Association. He is trained in Transactional Analysis, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and is Level II trained in the Gottman Method for couples therapy. David believes all individuals have value and possess the capacity for personal growth and positive change. He explores how childhood experiences and beliefs have shaped individuals' personalities and influenced their thinking and behaviors as adults. David's analysis of these internal interactions fosters understanding of how repeated interactional patterns that were advantageous in childhood prove undesirable or disadvantageous in adulthood. He challenges and instructs individuals on adjusting these interactions to align with their true life goals. He combines this approach with Gottman strategies to help couples understand how their current interactions tend to undermine their relationship goals, and he teaches interactional patterns that help couples create healthier relationships.
