David Watson, LMSW

Psychotherapist
NY
I believe therapy begins with feeling heard, understood, and supported. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, relationship challenges, life transitions, or simply feeling disconnected from yourself, my approach starts with listening to your story and understanding what matters most to you. Together, we’ll create a space where you can feel emotionally safe, culturally understood, and empowered to move toward meaningful change. As a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Forensic Psychology from St. John's University and my Master’s degree in Clinical Practice with Individuals, Groups, and Families from the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College. I work with teenagers, adults, and families, bringing a warm, compassionate, and nonjudgmental approach to the therapeutic process. I believe every person is the expert of their own experience, and my role is to help clients recognize their strengths, build resilience, and develop healthier ways of coping with life’s challenges.

Getting to know David Watson

What should a new client know about working with you?

My professional background includes experience as a prevention social worker, substance abuse counselor, foster care caseworker, and probation officer across city, county, and federal systems. These experiences have given me a deep understanding of the emotional, behavioral, and systemic challenges many individuals and families face, while also strengthening my ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and life experiences. My approach to therapy is strengths-based, culturally responsive, and tailored to each client’s individual needs and goals. I draw from a variety of evidence-based and person-centered techniques to support emotional wellness, self-awareness, and long-term growth. I understand the importance of feeling culturally respected and emotionally safe throughout the therapeutic journey, and I strive to create an environment where clients feel comfortable showing up as their authentic selves.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another. I’ll ask questions to better understand your experiences, your current challenges, and what you hope to gain from therapy, while also giving you space to share what feels most important to you. From there, our work together will be collaborative and guided by your needs. Some sessions may focus on immediate concerns or coping strategies, while others may allow space for deeper reflection, healing, and personal growth. My goal is to create a supportive environment where you feel deeply heard while also encouraged toward growth, healing, and self-discovery.
