With a strong background in school mental health, Dr. Stewart has spearheaded comprehensive mental health services in various school districts across rural, suburban, and urban areas throughout the country. His career in education began as a school counselor and psychologist before delving into private practice, where he focused on supporting children, adolescents, and families. He has also made significant contributions as a faculty member in counseling and school psychology at multiple universities. Currently, Dr. Stewart holds the esteemed position of Assistant Professor and Director of the School Counseling program at the University of the District of Columbia. Before embarking on his journey in mental health and education, Dr. Stewart started in the field of communications and media. He first worked as a communications intern for a Louisiana State Representative, and later, he ventured into television news and public relations. One of the highlights of his career was serving as the Communications Director and Press Secretary for the late Honorable Elijah E. Cummings, a respected democratic member of Congress from Maryland. He also held the role of Director of Communications for the United States Congressional Black Caucus. Dr. Stewart's educational journey includes a bachelor's degree in communications, as well as master's degrees in counseling and educational leadership from Southern University and A&M College. He obtained a Specialist in School Psychology degree from the University of Louisiana at Monroe, followed by an educational specialist degree in special education and a Doctor of Education in Educational Psychology with a focus on child development from Jackson State University.
