Denise Jean Coger, MSW, LSWAIC

Psychotherapist
WA
My approach to therapy is person-centered, relationally focused, trauma-informed, attachment-based, anti-oppressive, neurodiversity- and polyam-affirming, and LGBTQIA+ celebrating. I support my clients in processing their anxiety and emotions, navigating relationships, exploring their sexuality and gender identity, and untangling intergenerational family narratives and trauma. I provide a nonjudgmental, safe space and relationship with unconditional positive regard (therapy language for unconditional love) to support, encourage, and empower you to do what you need to be happy, successful, and thriving. I hold a Master's in Clinical Social Work from the University of Washington and a Bachelor's degree from Washington State University.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Research indicates that the effectiveness of therapy is significantly influenced by the relationship between the client and the therapist. I strive to create a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment where you can express yourself freely. While I understand that therapy can sometimes be challenging, my goal is to help you feel secure and at ease while integrating a sense of humor to foster a positive learning experience.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Do you struggle with stress management, anxiety, mood swings, intergenerational and cultural trauma, setting boundaries or communicating with your loved ones? Imagine working with a therapist you feel can empathize with, consider, validate, and normalize your unique cultural experiences or spiritual values. I will validate and hold a safe space for your feelings and be a witness for you to be able to explore your trauma, triggers, needs, and the path toward healing. Let's make the unconscious conscious. I work best with individuals who identify as neurodivergent, Asian, Latina/o/x, spiritual, and LGBTQIA+ seeking guidance/support.
