Getting to know Diana Veliz

*After booking, you will receive a link via Canvas to set up your patient portal. Setting up your patient portal is required to complete your appointment.* I specialize in women's and reproductive mental health, couples therapy, and trauma. My areas of focus include PMDD, pregnancy planning, fertility concerns, pregnancy loss, birth trauma, perinatal and postpartum mental health, perimenopause, relationship conflict, and life transitions. Before joining Rivia Mind, I worked at a nonprofit domestic violence shelter supporting families and later provided telehealth care to adults and families experiencing a wide range of mental health concerns. These experiences shaped my commitment to providing thoughtful, culturally responsive care that recognizes every person's story is unique.

What should a new client know about working with you?

The week before your period can feel like you're becoming someone you don't recognize. Trying to conceive can make life revolve around appointments, timelines, and disappointment. Pregnancy, birth, and becoming a parent can bring excitement alongside fear, grief, guilt, or a loss of identity. You and your partner may be having the same argument on repeat, struggling to reconnect after becoming parents, or feeling emotionally disconnected. These experiences often happen when major hormonal, physical, emotional, and relationship changes collide. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and practical. Together, we'll work to understand what's contributing to these patterns, build on your strengths, and develop tools that fit your life. I draw from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment Therapy (ACT), psychodynamic therapy, and psychoeducation, tailoring treatment to your individual needs and goals.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

For individual therapy, we'll begin by getting to know your story, identifying what's contributing to your current challenges, and creating a plan that aligns with your goals. For couples therapy, we'll start with a joint session to learn about your relationship and the concerns bringing you in. Each partner will then have an individual session to explore personal history and perspectives before coming back together to establish shared goals and a plan for moving forward. Whether we're working individually or as a couple, my goal is to help you better understand yourself, strengthen your relationships, and create meaningful, lasting change.
