Getting to know Diana Veliz

*After booking, you will receive a link via IntakeQ so you can complete required intake forms prior to your appointment* I’m a licensed clinical social worker with a Master of Social Work from Fordham University and a Post-Master Certificate in Trauma-Informed Clinical Practice from NYU. I’ve spent my career supporting adults, parents, and older adults through complex mental health challenges, including trauma, mood disorders, anxiety, and depression. My work centers around acknowledging the emotional, physical, and generational impact of trauma while also considering each person’s role in their community and culture. I’ve worked in domestic violence shelters and telehealth settings, providing care for diverse individuals and families across a wide spectrum of needs. What drives me is creating a safe, collaborative space where patients feel seen and empowered—especially those who may have felt overlooked or underserved. I use evidence-based treatment modalities, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), psychodynamic therapy, acceptance & commitment therapy (ACT), and psychoeducation. CBT helps individuals reframe negative thinking patterns, DBT provides skills for emotional regulation and distress tolerance, psychodynamic therapy explores the root of emotional struggles, and ACT helps patients live in alignment with their values while managing difficult emotions. I integrate these tools to build a care plan that’s unique to your needs while recognizing your strengths and resilience.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Seeking help is one of the hardest—and most powerful—decisions you can make. My style is warm, empowering, and collaborative. I view each patient as the expert in their own experience, and I’m here to offer support, insight, and clinical tools to help you reach your goals. I incorporate whole-person care, always accounting for the cultural, generational, and environmental influences that shape your mental health. Therapy with me is a shared process where we identify what’s most important to you, work on practical coping strategies, and build self-understanding over time. I’m passionate about helping individuals feel safe and supported in their care, especially when they’re navigating the stigma that still surrounds mental health. You deserve a space that honors your identity and your story—and that’s what I strive to provide.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first few sessions, we’ll explore your background, current challenges, and what you hope to gain from therapy. You can expect a compassionate, respectful environment where we move at a pace that feels comfortable. I often use psychoeducation early on to demystify the treatment process and help you feel more confident in your care. Our ongoing work may involve identifying patterns that no longer serve you, exploring root causes of emotional distress, or learning new ways to cope with difficult experiences. Depending on your needs, we might use structured techniques from CBT or DBT, deeper exploration through psychodynamic therapy, or value-based work from ACT to promote lasting change. Sessions are collaborative and responsive—I’ll check in regularly to make sure our approach continues to meet your needs. My goal is to help you feel empowered, connected, and equipped to navigate life’s challenges with more confidence and clarity.
