Getting to know Dorlee Michaeli

Dorlee Michaeli, LCSW, MBA, is a trauma-informed therapist who helps high-achieving women, especially those in tech, finance, and healthcare, quiet self-doubt, ease anxiety, and reconnect with confidence and clarity. She specializes in imposter syndrome, perfectionism, people-pleasing, unresolved trauma, and life or career transitions. Many of her clients appear successful on the outside but feel stuck, anxious, or burned out on the inside. Dorlee blends psychoanalytic insight with EMDR therapy, a powerful method for helping clients process distressing memories and shift long-held emotional patterns. She also offers EMDR therapy intensives (1-day and 3-day options) for those seeking a focused alternative to weekly sessions. Before becoming a therapist, Dorlee spent over a decade in the corporate world. She understands the internal pressure to perform, the fear of not being enough, and the survival strategies high performers often develop to cope. Her therapy style is warm, collaborative, and individualized—not one-size-fits-all. Whether you're carrying the weight of past experiences, stuck in cycles of overthinking, or unsure how to move forward in your career or relationships, therapy can help. Dorlee provides a space to reflect, process, and reconnect with yourself and what matters most to you. She is licensed in New York, New Jersey, and Illinois. Please note: Dorlee is an out-of-network provider. Payment is due at the time of service, and a receipt will be provided for insurance reimbursement, if applicable.

What should a new client know about working with you?

?? You’re driven, but constantly feel like it’s never enough. ?? You’ve achieved a lot, but still struggle with anxiety, people-pleasing, or burnout. ?? You’re at a crossroads and want clarity about your next steps. Therapy can help. I offer a warm, judgment-free space to process your experiences, challenge unhelpful patterns, and build a toolkit that works for your real life. We can go as deep or as practical as you need. And if you're feeling unsure or anxious about starting, know that you're not alone, I'll meet you right where you are. Starting therapy doesn’t require having everything “figured out.” Whether you’re carrying old wounds or just feeling overwhelmed by day-to-day stress, I’m here to help you make sense of it all. Together, we’ll explore the patterns shaping your current struggles and uncover new ways to move forward. My style is warm, thoughtful, and collaborative. I draw from both psychoanalytic therapy and EMDR to tailor our work to your goals, whether that’s healing the past, finding relief in the present, or creating a more grounded future.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Here’s what therapy typically looks like: First few sessions: We’ll clarify what’s bringing you in, explore key themes in your history, and start connecting the dots. Ongoing work: We’ll deepen your self-understanding, shift stuck patterns, and integrate tools to manage stress, anxiety, and emotional overwhelm. If helpful, we can incorporate EMDR. Tailored to you: I adjust the pace and style to meet your needs, whether that means more reflection, more action, or both. I also offer EMDR therapy intensives (1-day or 3-day) for clients who want a more immersive option. These are planned in advance and include supportive preparation and integration sessions. If this sounds like a good fit, I’d love to connect.

Dorlee is an excellent therapist. I immediately felt at ease working with her and never felt judged. She is very knowledgeable, kind, empathetic and trustworthy. She listened attentively, provided helpful feedback and concrete considerations for me to apply during a tough period of postpartum depression, and helped me gain better insight into myself, my feelings and my experiences. We did some EMDR and psychoanalytically-informed exploration and I started experiencing change and significant symptom relief throughout our work together. I highly recommend working with Dorlee!

Dorlee was a wonderful therapist, who was empathetic, remembered my history, references and names, and a patient listener. I felt heard and valued and received great advice that helped me process what I wanted to achieve. It was a positive experience that has lasted beyond the sessions.
Dorlee has been a huge help to me over the past 3 years. She is patient, non-judgemental, and honest. She is very good at helping process trauma, at you own pace, in a safe manner. She is great at both offering practical advice, or listening to you vent after a rough week. We've been meeting remotely for over a year now, and I've found her methods to be just as effective as in-person. Highly recommend!

Dorlee is amazing! She is very thoughtful and makes me feel heard during my sessions with her. I started meeting with her last fall and she has helped me get through some very difficult moments in my life - loss in the family, career transition, relationship issues, etc.. She's helped me change my mindset and given me life long tools to manage stress and anxiety.
Dorlee is an incredible therapist and I would recommend her to anyone! She is very considerate and employs a lot of very helpful methods and techniques.
Dorlee is a sincerely thoughtful, wise, and generous counselor. A rare gem of a human. Anyone who is on the verge of wanted or unwanted changes and willing to develop their self awareness will find great healing and joy in their work with Dorlee. I recommend her with my whole heart.
