Getting to know Douglas Shotsky
I am a Christian, a husband, and a father of three, with many years of counseling experience and lots of life experiences. I began my undergraduate degree in Leadership and Ministry and eventually completed my master's degree in Professional Counseling at Liberty University. My professional experience includes being a therapist and crisis counselor in a community mental health setting, a director of a men's residential addiction center, a school-based counselor, a pastor for six years, and I am currently a children's therapist. My initial approach is to build a strong working relationship with each client to create an atmosphere where they feel comfortable being transparent. This is key to identifying specific issues, treatment approaches, and developing a personalized plan of action. I am experienced and competent in many different therapeutic approaches and do not believe any single approach fits all. I also incorporate a holistic approach that includes mental, physical, and spiritual aspects. Clients can expect a session with me to be a warm and safe environment where they can express their feelings, identify their issues, and work toward solutions.
