Getting to know Elaine Simmons

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 20 years of experience focusing on trauma and abuse. My experience includes working with many demographics including adults and children. In my session I focus on using evidenced-based techniques such as Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in order to help my clients improve. I often work with clients to address depression and anxiety. My counseling style is person-centered. Many of my clients have said they have felt heard and understood after our sessions. I take the time to listen to and affirm my clients. For me it is an honor to be invited along my clients healing journey. In my spare time I enjoy nature walks. My favorite quote is "" No one can make you feel inferior without your consent' by Eleanor Roosevelt, because it strengthens and empowers people. Since graduating from the University of Michigan in 1996, I have been working in various fields of social work, dedicated to cognitive behavioral therapy and clinical social work. I have vast experience working with individuals with physical and mental disabilities. I am licensed in the state of Michigan and have obtained an LMSW. For the past 8 years I was a therapist at Oakland Psychological Clinic in Flint MI. My current role as a therapist on the TotalLife.com enables me to focus on my passion to support older adults and that's important to me because I respect and treasure our senior population.
