Getting to know Eli Nadeau

The practice of psychotherapy is, for me, mixed with the matter of freedom. How do you understand the constellation of ancestry and expectation, capacity and experience that makes up your life? What binds you, compels you, shuts you down, lights you up? You might speak about fantasies, dreams, symptoms, burdens, grief. Some of them may not be yours. You may not choose to speak right away. There’s space for you here, and time. I’d like to join you in the project of your freedom; my wager is that through speaking, through transference, we will learn more about what that means.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I work with adolescents, adults and elders who experience the world as neurodiverse and neurotypical. My clinical experience is trauma-informed, and encompasses schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, substance use, addictions and compulsions, ADHD and ASD, anxiety, depression, and the kinds of struggle that mark transitions.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I welcome the chance to explore with you what has been, and what could be possible. I work with people whose lives have demonstrated divergence from the norms, and those for whom norms have been structuring, and helpful. My engagement with psychoanalysis and political theory inform my practice, as do writing, activism, and other forms of critical play.
