Getting to know Elise Alvarez

Are you a women and/or a queer person looking to become more connected with yourself and your emotional expression? Perhaps you are struggling with body image issues, relational conflicts or trauma. As a therapist, I like to approach clients with non-judgment and vulnerability, and provide a space for them to fully and authentically express their emotions.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am deeply passionate about bringing the body into therapy through somatic interventions, while acknowledging and working with how bodies are perceived in society. Emotional expression is my main goal in all of my sessions. When people are able to wholly feel emotions cognitively and somatically, they are then able to access a holistic version of themselves. This creates connection with yourself and others in a way that can enrich your life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I am passionate about social justice advocacy, and addressing how oppressive systems affect mental health. I prioritizes continuing my education about racial, gender, sexuality, weight and ability-based discrimination and works on examining her own biases. This is important in therapy, as these oppressive systems can negatively affect many clients.
