Getting to know Elizabeth Filas

Many client come to me when they're feeling stuck, lost or when they are losing hope. When working together you can expect to see changes in your outlook, introspection and relief from some even the most overwhelming of symptoms. My expertise is working with survivors of child abuse, sexual violence and those struggling in their interpersonal life. Sometimes in our lives our values, goals and boundaries change. It can be difficult to navigate and negotiate those changes. I'm here to help. I love challenging my clients and, even more, I love when they challenge me. I've seen tremendous growth in myself and my clients from this dynamic. I wanted to be a therapist because I wanted to be the person I needed when I was growing up. Elizabeth Filas is a licensed clinical social work (LCSW). She obtained her Master's Degree in Social Work at the University of Aurora in Illinois and her Bachelor's Degree in Human Development and Family Studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champagne. She has spent the last decade working with individuals who have experienced trauma, abuse and those with major mental health disorders. She believes in solution focused and family systems approach. She uses a mixture of cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy and emotion focused therapy. A major focus of her work has been developing coping skills, reducing panic attacks as well as reframing cognitive distortions.
