“Liz is a true gem. She was referred to me 2 years ago by a coworker, and I’ve since referred her to my friends and family members in need of support, guidance and evolution. Liz is one of the kindest doctors I’ve ever met, and takes a true interest in her clients growth and well being. She routinely remembers more about my life than I do. While being kind, she is also direct and challenges my thinking, and I feel confident I can handle future obstacles with her support and clear perspective. We often say in my family, “what would Liz say?” to any number of situations that arise - proof that Liz helps us all through. ”

Getting to know Elizabeth Goodman

I have been working for over twenty-five years with people facing a wide variety of life situations, including issues related to relationships, anxiety, depression, ADHD, parenting, life transitions, health, trauma, employment, education, and identity. I hold a Master's in Social Work from New York University and have extensive training working with adults, adolescents, and couples in outpatient settings. In my practice, I collaborate with patients to create a space where you are respected, listened to, and encouraged. Our work will allow you to gain insight and increase motivation toward living a happier and more fulfilling life. I tailor each treatment to fit individual needs and work together toward positive change.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I value an open and collaborative therapy experience. Using psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral techniques, we explore, examine and shift patterns and habits that have held patients back from being fully present and satisfied in their lives. I ask patients to come to therapy each week with ideas, observations, questions - and to be an active participant in their healing. Please note - Individual sessions are 45 minutes in length. Couples sessions are 60 minutes.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Once a new patient has contacted me, we will arrange for a brief 15 minute phone call prior to meeting in person. During this call, we will speak briefly about the reasons they are seeking therapy. The first session will include both collection of past experiences, as well as present circumstances. The patient will have the opportunity articulate their needs and desires for our work together.

Liz is a welcoming and compassionate therapist. I highly recommend working with her. My time in therapy with Liz has greatly improved my mental health. She gives great guidance and advice.
Elizabeth Goodman provided skillful, empathetic counselling at a critical juncture in my life. She is knowledgeable, experienced, and insightful. Her manner is consistently warm and attentive.
Liz is an exceptional therapist - thoughtful & insightful, supportive & logical, authentic & compassionate. I highly recommend her.
Elizabeth has provided invaluable support to my son and improved his well-being tremendously where he is now able to independently navigate daily stressors and challenges. She partnered with myself as a parent to assist our child in addressing serious mental health issues by teaching critical long-term skills and strategies. Elizabeth is compassionate and listens to the people she engages where I always felt heard and supported. She is insightful and able to apply her knowledge and experience. Additionally, she adeptly managed the parent-child relationship in a way that respected the confidentiality while also ensuring independence of all individuals. It's a relationship I greatly appreciate and will continue to leverage in supporting my child's further growth and development.
I highly recommended Liz. She has supported me through very tough times with compassion, wisdom and clear strategies that have improved my relationships with others - and my relationship to myself. She creates a safe space where I feel totally un-judged (she's super relatable and so easy to talk - I am able to be completely honest with her) . And while she is patient and kind, she really encourages accountability and change. I can't recommend her enough!
I've been seeing Liz on and off for the last 7 years, and her care has been transformative in my life. Her approach is so authentic and warm. She is such a great listener and has helped me think through so many major life transitions. Whether the challenges you're facing are big or small, she will help you lead your way through them. I highly recommend her.
Liz is incredibly down-to-earth and creates a comfortable, conversational atmosphere during our sessions, which makes it much easier to be open and honest. She has taught me many healthy coping mechanisms and consistently offers thoughtful, mature advice. She’s also been very accommodating when I’ve had scheduling conflicts. I'm so lucky our paths crossed because she is the best therapist ever!
Been seeing Liz for several years and would highly recommend for talk therapy. She teaches tools for managing depression and anxiety outside of sessions. She’s also easy to talk with and compassionate to an incredibly wide variety of issues.
