Psychotherapist
VA
I am Liz Serens, a licensed professional counselor with over a decade of experience supporting individuals as they navigate life’s challenges. My ideal clients are those who feel stuck or overwhelmed by their mental health struggles, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and interpersonal difficulties. They may be experiencing mood disorders, ADHD, PTSD, or relationship challenges, and are seeking guidance in fostering clarity, peace, and a sense of empowerment. Beyond my professional expertise, I deeply understand the complexities of mental health on a personal level. Having worked through ADHD symptoms and implemented evidence-based techniques to manage them, I know firsthand the struggles of maintaining focus, structure, and emotional regulation. I also appreciate the profound impact depression can have on daily life—the weight it carries and the challenges it presents in finding motivation and joy. These experiences have shaped my approach, enabling me to demonstrate genuine empathy, understanding, and compassion in my work. I believe that therapy is a collaborative journey. I work with individuals to develop specific, attainable, reasonable, and timely goals that align with their needs and aspirations. My approach is centered on creating a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space where you can be your authentic self and explore your challenges without fear. I utilize a variety of evidence-based therapeutic techniques tailored to each person, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based interventions, somatic therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and person-centered therapy. I want my clients to know that I am just as human as they are—that I, too, have faced challenges in seeking the right therapeutic support and exploring feelings of being stuck. Through shared understanding, we can break down barriers, build resilience, and create a meaningful path toward heal
