Getting to know Elka Cubacub

I work with thoughtful, self-aware individuals who feel stuck between what they know and how they actually live. Many of my clients are insightful and capable, yet struggle with self-criticism, anxiety, shame, and patterns that feel out of control. They often feel frustrated by the gap between the life they envision and the one they are currently living. I specialize in working with eating disorders, mood and anxiety disorders (including OCD), psychosis, and relationship distress. I also work with couples, especially those navigating conflict around identity, values, spirituality, politics, or major life differences. My work is grounded in evidence-based, experiential, and embodied methods that help people change their relationship to the patterns that keep them stuck. I balance deep understanding with tangible, structured change work so therapy is more than a conversation you might have with a friend. My clinical background includes work across levels of care, including partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), and outpatient settings. I have worked with individuals, couples, and groups, and have supported hundreds of clients navigating complex mental health challenges. My training includes DBT, CBT, motivational interviewing, Brainspotting, and couples therapy approaches. For Individuals: Please note this practice accepts in-network insurance or private pay for individual sessions. Private pay rate for individuals is $150. For Couples: Please note this practice only accepts private pay patients. Agreed upon rate for couples is $175.

What should a new client know about working with you?

For Individuals: Please note this practice accepts in-network insurance or private pay for individual sessions. Private pay rate for individuals is $150. For Couples: Please note this practice only accepts private pay patients. Agreed upon rate for couples is $175. Clients can expect a space that is nonjudgmental, collaborative, and purposeful. I do not shame, force change, or offer surface-level advice. Many of my clients already understand their patterns intellectually, so our work goes beyond insight alone. My style balances emotional safety with honest challenge. I combine clinical structure with intuition and responsiveness, helping you feel deeply understood while also supported in making tangible changes. Sessions are not just conversation; they are guided, focused, and designed to create movement. My approach is embodied and acceptance-based. This means we do not fight or suppress parts of you. Instead, we get curious about your symptoms and behaviors, understand their function, and work toward change from a place of self-compassion rather than self-criticism. You can expect clear direction, practical tools, and a collaborative process that helps translate understanding into real-life change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A typical session is semi-structured, and experiential. We will talk about what is happening in your current life, slow down and work directly with your internal experience, and build skills to translate what you learn in therapy to how you live your life. Rather than just talking about problems, I guide clients through tangible, evidence-based exercises to shift the patterns that keep them stuck. This may include experiential techniques, body-based awareness, skills practice, and real-time processing of emotional responses. Sessions are active and focused, not passive or vague. There is always a balance between understanding and change. You will never be pushed faster than you are ready, but you will be supported in moving forward. Over time, this process helps clients feel more grounded, hopeful, and capable. Clients often describe therapy as both deeply validating and meaningfully challenging, helping them create lasting change instead of temporary relief. *For Individuals: Please note this practice accepts in-network insurance or private pay for individual sessions.
