Hello, I'm Emily, and I'm here to help you navigate the complexities of mental health and well-being. I firmly believe that the roots of mental illness and maladaptive behaviors can begin from infancy and transcend the lifespan, influenced by environmental, biological, and genetic factors. Over the past decade, we've seen a significant increase in substance abuse, anxiety, depression, and other adjustment disorders, making it more crucial than ever to address these issues from a holistic perspective. By looking at the individual as a whole, we can understand how early life risk exposures, such as substance use during pregnancy, insecure attachment in infancy, or family violence in childhood, can impact mental well-being or predispose an individual to mental disorders later in life. My approach to therapy is grounded in this understanding, and I work with clients from a systems perspective, considering not only their experiences but also how these experiences and behaviors affect their environment. I graduated from Colorado State University in 2005 with a B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies. In 2011, I earned my Master of Social Work from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, with a dual specialization in Clinical Social Work and Management & Community Organizations. I became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in 2014. Over the years, I've had the privilege of working with at-risk populations facing co-occurring disorders, life transitions, domestic abuse, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and addiction behaviors. My experience has equipped me to help those struggling with these challenges understand 'the why' behind their experiences and make meaningful changes for the better. If you’re ready to take the next step towards understanding and improving your mental health, I’m here to support you on your journey.
