“My experience with Emily has been extraordinary. She truly listened to my needs. I have never felt so heard in my life. She demonstrates just the right amount of empathy. She is not afraid to challenge and push me when I need it. I never believed in the therapeutic process but she helped me believe in the process of therapy.”

“Emily is great! She has a unique way of making Therapy feel less intimidating. She took the time to listen and understand my situation, which I can appreciate. I have worked with many therapists in the past, but my experience with her was like no other. She does not have that one size fits all approach; she takes time to understand what works and what doesn't work for you. I loved her creativity when helping me learn new concepts to try in my life. ”

Getting to know Emily Martinez

I am a Licensed Master Social Worker, and a psychotherapist at Chamin Ajjan Psychotherapy (CAPsych). I earned my Master’s Degree at Monmouth University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services from Metropolitan College of New York. The ability to provide every individual with a unique therapeutic experience is fundamental, which is why I am constantly engaging in continuing education, training, individual and group supervision. CAPsych is a diverse group of highly skilled and trained therapists with a mission of providing warm, sensitive and effective treatment to help you cope with life’s stressors and live your best life. CAPsych therapists build a genuine rapport and therapeutic alliance with our clients, getting better outcomes. In addition, CAPsych is nationally recognized as a mental health leader, being the regional clinic for the National Social Anxiety Center and we are widely called upon for our expert contributions in print, video, digital media, podcast and more. As a therapist, I believe in building a therapeutic relationship that is both safe and relaxing. Therapy is a journey, and it is your journey; you are the expert of your own life; as a therapist, I want to walk beside you, not ahead nor behind. It is a pleasure to be allowed into your world, and I handle that with the utmost care. I practice from an eclectic approach with the awareness that every individual, couple, and family needs are exclusive. Some frameworks I draw from are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), Narrative therapy, Collaborative therapy, conflict resolution therapy, and Emotion-Focused (EFT). I enjoy engaging in mindfulness and creating a Zen mood. My experience is diverse as I have worked with all ages in multiple settings. I have used creative and distinctive techniques to assist individuals, couples, and families find healing and understanding in challenging situations. I was captivated by the role of the psychotherapist at a very young age. My passion continued to grow as the years passed, and I was confident that this is what I am supposed to be doing. I am of Hispanic descent and come from a culture where therapy is stigmatized. I aim to break those barriers and make therapy welcoming. Life is too short to be caught in a cycle of bad relationships, holding grudges, letting trauma control us, or being anxious/angry all the time. I am dedicated to guide you to be free of emotional pain and to find meaning/purpose in all aspects of your life. I chose to become a psychotherapist because I believe every individual holds an essential role in this world, and seeing individuals become their best selves is a bonus.
