Getting to know Erin Choice

Hello, I'm Erin Choice, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Virginia and Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Rhode Island. I provide virtual therapy dedicated to helping individuals reclaim peace, purpose, and self-worth. I specialize in working with adults and teens navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and relationship struggles. With a strong foundation in trauma-informed care, I bring an eclectic and personalized approach to each session—drawing from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), person-centered therapy, mindfulness practices, and strength-based techniques. My goal is to create a compassionate, nonjudgmental space where you feel seen, supported, and empowered to grow. I have experience supporting survivors of abuse, those healing from complicated family dynamics, and individuals in major life transitions—including motherhood, career shifts, military transitions, and orientation exploration. I enjoy working with members of the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ many communities, helping clients navigate unique cultural and personal challenges. Therapy with me is a collaborative journey. I believe healing happens when you feel safe enough to be your full self, and I’m here to walk beside you with curiosity, honesty, and empathy. Whether you're seeking clarity, confidence, or simply someone to listen without judgment, I’m honored to be part of your healing process.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, but I aim to make the process feel grounded, supportive, and empowering from the very first session. I want my clients to know that therapy with me is a joint, judgment-free space where your experiences, emotions, and goals are honored. I value transparency and honesty and encourage open dialogue—whether you're processing trauma, navigating life transitions, or learning how to better manage anxiety, depression, or relationship challenges. My approach is integrative and tailored to your unique needs. I often incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns, mindfulness to create space between reaction and response, and person-centered therapy to ensure you feel heard and respected throughout our work together. I also draw from trauma-informed and strength-based practices that help you build insight, confidence, and resilience. Clients often describe my style as warm, compassionate, and direct. I’m not afraid to gently challenge you when needed, but always with kindness and the intention of helping you grow. I believe that healing happens when you feel safe, seen, and supported—and that therapy should be a place where you can show up exactly as you are, no mask needed. You won’t be expected to “have it all together” here. We'll move at a pace that feels right for you, building trust, setting realistic goals, and celebrating progress along the way. Therapy is your space, and I'm honored to walk alongside you in it.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process is centered on creating a safe, supportive space where you feel seen, heard, and empowered to be your full self. During our first few sessions, we’ll take time to explore what brings you to therapy, your personal history, and the goals you’d like to work toward. I believe healing happens through connection and clarity, so I approach each client with empathy, curiosity, and collaboration. A typical session with me is conversational and flexible—guided by your needs, not a rigid agenda. Some days you may come in ready to process deeper emotions or past trauma, while other days may focus on developing skills to manage stress, anxiety, or difficult relationships. Either way, we’ll work together to make each session meaningful and productive. I may introduce practical tools—like thought-challenging exercises or grounding techniques—but I also make space for silence, storytelling, and reflection. You’ll never be rushed, judged, or expected to have the “right words.” Instead, we’ll focus on progress over perfection. Over time, sessions will evolve with you. We’ll revisit your goals, track your growth, and adapt our work as your needs shift. My role is to support your healing while helping you strengthen your voice, build confidence, and feel more in control of your life. You bring your lived experience, I bring the clinical tools—we work together to create lasting change.
