“Frances has such insightful feedback and has really helped support me in recognizing my patterns/understanding where they originated. I feel as opposed to just talking about things that I have a deeper sense of self and direction after working with her. ”

“Frances is a caring practitioner - you can tell that she has a lot of genuine concern. I've only been seeing her for a few months, but she's already used a lot of varied tools to help me like picture cards and dream analysis but mostly, she's just a really good listener. She's psychoanalytically-oriented, so she really helps you to go deep if you're up for the challenge of thinking about things that aren't just in the immediate present.”

Getting to know Frances Cassell

Before enrolling in Adelphi University’s four-year Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Certification Program, I earned my bachelor's degree in psychology and a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling. My frame of practice sits at the intersection of psychology, philosophy, and the subjective inner world. I believe in the inherent wisdom of the individual and view therapy as a means of connecting to that wisdom. When we are separated from ourselves, a host of challenging feelings, thoughts, and behaviors are liable to run and direct our lives. We usually seek therapy when these challenges are confounding, feel out of control, or are otherwise inhibiting peace, satisfaction, or progress. My perspective on quality therapeutic work is one that views a client’s freedom of self-expression as paramount. It is through honesty, openness, and willingness within an accepting, collaborative environment that being and knowing the self is catalyzed and nurtured. My objective in therapeutic work is to address clients’ concerns through facilitating a conversation with themselves, as ultimately, my belief is that truth resides within. Self-disconnection makes this truth is harder to access; to see. My role as a psychotherapist is to hold up a light, while together, we enter unknowns with courage, compassion, and the conviction that while change can feel daunting or frightening, it is not only possible, but liberating. Positive outcomes of psychotherapy typically include higher tolerance for emotional states, enhanced capacity for discerning choices, increased self-esteem, improved relationships with self and others, a moderated view of reality, embodiment, and self-trust. I have an extensive background in the principles of the 12-step recovery model, particularly with regard to codependence and am disposed to provide psychoeducation regarding family systems and relational dynamics where requested.
