Getting to know Gabriela Vega
Specializing in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and qualified to treat Substance Use Disorders, I, Gabriela Vega, am a driven Mental Health therapist. Over a decade, I've been working with clients presenting Borderline Personality, Bipolar Disorder, Depression, General Anxiety, ADHD, and PTSD. I've engaged seniors, diverse communities, and new immigrants, particularly from Mexico and Venezuela.
Born in Peru, I moved to the US when I was 14 following my father's tragic passing from leukemia. Life in a economically-disadvantaged neighborhood in Florida brought about several hardships. I embarked my academic journey in the US as a Spanish-speaking teenager, learning English in middle school. Being a single mother at 16 significantly altered my life.
However, despite encounters with violence, legal issues, and lack of familial support, I persevered. I obtained my GED, graduated Summa Cum Laude from Ferris University, and later acquired a Master's degree from Wayne State University, reflecting sheer resilience and determination.
My older sister, Juli's experience of coming out as non-binary at 7 has been instrumental in shaping my career as a social worker and therapist. It taught me lessons about love, acceptance, and societal prejudices. Despite Juli's passing in 2021, her impact remains. Later, after the devastating loss of my daughter, I persevered again for my teenage son.
Post work, I unwind with my two chihuahuas, Baby Boy and Chiquita, taking walks along Saint Clair River and caring for my cats, Key West and Raymond. As Viktor Frankl puts it aptly, “That which is to give light, must endure burning.”
I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional (CCATP), Specialist in Anger Management (CSAM), and ADHD Clinical Services Provider (ADHD-CCSP), ready to help and support.
