Something does not feel right. You’re having a hard time. You’re stuck, conflicted, and can’t decide what to do. Maybe one part of you thinks one way, and another part feels differently. You feel disconnected and alone. Others have tried to help, but you feel like they don’t really get you and want you to “just get over it.” Shame and frustration set in. Maybe you sense that some trauma from your past is blocking you from living the life you want. You want to get unstuck, have a clear roadmap to know what to do next and how to go about healing. You want to experience real joy and connection again. Hello and welcome to my page! I’m Gerri (she/her/hers). I am an independently licensed Couples and Family Therapist practicing in Washington State. I earned my Master’s in Couples and Family Therapy from Seattle University. I help clients with trauma get unstuck. I am trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and include techniques to help calibrate your natural nervous system response to perceived threat. I also offer Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Somatic Experiencing techniques to better manage your distress. For couples, in addition to the above modalities, I am trained in Bader’s Developmental Model for Couples, which focuses on differentiation between partners. I also incorporate the Gottman Method of Couples Therapy.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My therapy style is integrative, creative, and restorative. I enjoy working with clients who are facing life transitions, who struggle with spiritual and existential issues. I am interested in bi-cultural and inter-generational issues, having lived experience with multi-cultural identity and generational nuances. I start from where you are at the beginning of our therapeutic relationship. I envision us as collaborative partners in the process of crafting out your therapy goals and objectives. I strive to hold a space for you where you feel safe by being accepting and non-judgmental. I maintain a curious approach in our work together, thus at times, I may suggest experiments as "homework". I may also go with my clients' preferences toward a more structured or organic process.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

When we agree to work together, I'll send you paperwork where you'll share your main concerns, brief history, and significant events and relationships. This will be uploaded electronically and kept in a HIPAA-compliant platform. Our first session starts with an intake interview, which would take about 75-90 minutes for me to gain a better understanding of you together with what had filled out prior. The first few sessions would be focused on assessment and refining your therapy goals. At this point (or even sooner), you may be better able to decide if we are a good fit for each other. We would then focus on your goals, with regular reviews about the process and your progress. Sessions typically are held once a week in the beginning and last from 53-60 minutes each. Therapy is a personal journey, and some clients report significant progress in an average of 10-15 sessions. At some point where we agree that significant growth has taken place, you may wish to meet every other week to maintain your progress, and work toward termination.
