Getting to know Gina Schutz

Gina provides a person-centered approach that incorporates past experiences, beliefs, and goals. She uses a holistic and intuitive framework, offering a safe space for clients to engage in introspection and express themselves without fear of judgment. Combining art making, talk therapy, play, and humor, Gina creates an inclusive and comfortable environment for self-exploration. She is culturally attuned to clients from diverse backgrounds and, as a bilingual clinician, provides psychotherapy in both English and Spanish to ensure language is never a barrier to treatment. Gina earned a Master's in Creative Arts Therapy from Pratt Institute. She has worked with children, adolescents, adults, and groups, helping them cope with a variety of issues such as depression, anxiety, OCD, trauma, PTSD, life transitions, low self-esteem, relationship challenges, and group dynamics.

What should a new client know about working with you?

When you begin therapy with me, you can expect a warm, non-judgmental, and collaborative space where you are encouraged to show up exactly as you are. I believe therapy works best when it feels human — grounded in curiosity, compassion, and sometimes even humor. My approach is person-centered and holistic. That means I’m interested in understanding not just your symptoms, but your story — your past experiences, cultural context, relationships, beliefs, strengths, and the patterns that may be shaping how you move through the world. Together, we explore what feels aligned with your values and goals rather than focusing on “fixing” you. I integrate creative expression, reflection, and talk therapy depending on what feels most supportive for you. Art is always an invitation, never a requirement. I offer bilingual therapy in English and Spanish and aim to create a compassionate, culturally attuned environment where self-awareness, emotional growth, and lasting change can unfold at a pace that feels safe and aligned.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first few sessions focus on getting to know you — your history, current concerns, relationships, cultural context, strengths, and what brings you to therapy now. We’ll clarify your goals and begin identifying patterns, stressors, or themes that may be impacting your emotional well-being. In ongoing sessions, we typically start by checking in on what feels most present or urgent that week. From there, we explore emotions, thoughts, and relational dynamics with curiosity and compassion. Depending on your needs, I may incorporate reflective questions, grounding tools, communication strategies, or creative/art-based exercises. Art is always optional and used only if it feels supportive. My approach is collaborative and paced intentionally. Some sessions may feel more insight-oriented, while others are more skill-based or emotionally processing. Throughout our work, I aim to help you build emotional awareness, strengthen self-compassion, and develop practical tools so you can feel more grounded and aligned in your daily life and relationships. Therapy is not one-size-fits-all — we continuously adjust the process to meet you where you are.

Gina is amazing! So far she is the best therapist I have worked with. She is very nice and empathetic, remembers little details from past conversations in sessions. Sessions with her feel very safe and comfortable. Really feels she listens and cares
One of my favorite therapists over the years. Friendly and easy to talk to, and I appreciate the non-traditional therapeutic exercises. Highly recommend.

Gina is very kind, patient and thoughtful. She's a great listener and very empathetic to your experiences. She's an art therapist, so it was helpful to me as someone who enjoys making art to integrate that into my treatment.
Gina was really nice and easy to talk too. I really enjoyed our session, she made feel very comfortable and heard. Will definitely continue working with her.
My session with Gina was fantastic. I really felt like I left with a new set of tools to help me shift my perspective. Gina made me feel secure to express myself even though I am hesitant to make visual art. Would highly reccomend!
The way of managing the session was very comfortable for me, I could express myself freely, I understand that I am in good hands.
