Getting to know Harry Swanson

I am a Masters graduate of Liberty University where we were taught the latest evidence based theory and brief interventions in the field of counseling. There was the additional challenge in their scholastic program that encouraged the student to examine these disciplines according to Biblical truth. I have pursued additional training in substance abuse, emotionally focused couples therapy and spiritually focused addictions treatment. I am fully licensed in Wisconsin and Michigan as a professional counselor (LPC). In Michigan; I am a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC), in Wisconsin; a Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) and Nationally; a Certified Mental Health Coach (CMHC). I am able to bring a spiritual and/or Christian perspective to the therapy room whenever you tell me it’s OK and desirable. I have facilitated several marriage enrichment seminars (Marriage on the Rock and Love and Respect), co-facilitated Life Skills and am knowledgeable in matters of faith. What should a new client know about working with you?

My counseling style is eclectic. What that means to you is that I meet you where you're at. I match appropriate evidence based practices to your personality and temperament to assist you in obtaining the degree of peace and healing you feel is satisfactory. I am familiar with and use; Motivational Interviewing, CBT, TF-CBT, REBT, Adlerian, and various other techniques and approaches to psychotherapy.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We start with basic intake paperwork, then depending on where your at; we get to work. If needed we will do some diagnostic and assessment work to flesh out deeper and more involved challenges or problem roots. You are the expert on you so I will be sensitive to where you want to go with your therapy. May I be your skilled (expert?) guide to finding healing.
