Getting to know Heather Edwards

Heather Edwards is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the Midtown area of Manhattan, near Grand Central Station. Many of her clients are women who have found success in their profession or academics and are often working on healing trauma. They find themselves navigating the intricate maze of life transitions, striving for a sense of balance, and cultivating healthy relationships. As they engage in therapy, such as EMDR, they confront and reprocess past wounds, gradually releasing the pain of traumatic experiences. This journey empowers them to cope more effectively with daily challenges, develop healthier coping strategies, and face changes with resilience. By addressing the roots of their trauma, they transform pain into strength, creating a more fulfilling life. As a seasoned therapist with 20+ years of experience, Heather has helped adults, families, and children in homes, hospitals, community centers, schools, and private practice. She holds a Master's in Counseling Psychology from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in NY, FL, RI, and PA. Heather is also a Certified EMDR Therapist, a Life Coach, and a Board Certified Counselor. It can be difficult to find the right therapist and uncomfortable sharing your life with an unfamiliar person. Heather will meet you where you are, help you soothe the inner critic, clear trauma, and develop a meaningful, values-based life. She invites you to co-create your treatment journey and provide feedback about your progress.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to clients is warm and nonjudgemental. Together, we will assess your needs, vision, and values to develop a meaningful path forward. This is a therapeutic relationship that is collaborative and you are empowered to build resilience and confidence. I am certified and licensed for providing a variety of treatments for anxiety, depression, and trauma.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first session is one full hour. It is exploratory and mutually informational. I will answer any questions you have about the therapy process and ask you questions about your life history including significant events, developmental milestones, important relationships, challenges and strengths, proud moments, and coping strategies. Typically, 45 minute weekly therapy sessions follow. Together, we will develop treatment goals and begin actionable steps toward meaningful change.

I have been working w/ Heather for few years now. It started with something that got resolved. But I noticed the growth and positive effect my sessions with her have, so I continue. It has been great to work with her and I see a huge impact coming from the work we do. I highly recommend Heather because I see what a big difference has made for me and I'm sure it'll do that for other people. I'm very happy with my overall experience with Heather. It has been a great time and I'll keep working on myself under her guidance.
Heather has been my therapist for five years now, and I think she's wonderful. She has helped me through major life transitions, and always has wisdom to share. She's perceptive and kind, and I recommend her very highly.
I love meeting with Heather. She is the first therapist I have felt like I can be honest with. Not be judged. I always feel so relaxed and sane after meeting with her. I'd recommended her to anyone in the Flatiron area.
Heather was amazing! I felt comfortable from the start. I didn't feel judged and she gave new ways to deal with my problems. The spa atmosphere of her office is so relaxing - not the usual clinical setting. I highly recommend her!
Heather was excellent-highly recommend!
Great session as always.
Excellent advice, truly care about your well being and isn't afraid to tell you something you wouldn't want to hear. She gives a different outlook that, I may have not been able to see by myself. I always appreciate her wisdom, knowledge and willingness to help.
