“I thought Heather was lovely. Finding the building was easy, and I liked the waiting room. There wasn’t an office manager, so I was a little confused as to if I needed to fill out forms or was all set, but everything was fine. I felt very heard and accepted as someone coming back to therapy after a while.”

Getting to know Heather Roland

Whether anxiety has your mind in overdrive, depression is making everything feel heavy, or stress and burnout are wearing you down, it can feel hard to see a path forward. Maybe you're second-guessing everything or feeling disconnected from what once brought joy. It’s exhausting to do this alone—but you don’t have to. I help adults navigate anxiety, burnout, perfectionism, and big life transitions. I work especially well with deep feelers, overthinkers, and those who’ve always taken care of others but are now wondering, When is it my turn to feel okay? I offer in-person sessions in Park Slope and telehealth across New York.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I firmly believe that you are the expert in your own experience, and we will work collaboratively to identify your goals and develop personalized strategies that resonate with your needs and values. I also believe that your needs in the therapy room will likely change over time and look forward to adapting with you along the way. I will actively listen to your concerns, ask thoughtful questions, and provide guidance and support while encouraging your active participation in the therapeutic process.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In the first session, I typically start by better understanding the primary reason you are coming to therapy as well as getting to know more about you and what you are hoping to accomplish in our time together. I use a collaborative and integrative approach and partner with you to ensure that you are receiving the care that aligns best with your needs. My therapeutic approach integrates a range of evidence-based modalities, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Psychodynamic. By drawing from these approaches, we will work together to identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns, develop effective coping strategies, and foster self-compassion and resilience.
