“Heidi is such a wonderful person and has helped me through one of the toughest times in my life. She made me stronger although she knew I was strong the whole time at my lowest when I thought I was falling apart I saw the light at the end of the tunnel. Unfortunate events where I had to leave New York City I had to stop my time with her for a period of time. As I’m still getting my stuff together I always think about our sessions and how it has helped me get to where I am today. She has great techniques to deal with lots of stress she has great advice and a wonderful heart and ear to listen to whatever it is you must talk about I highly recommend Heidi and would love to see her again soon and have sessions with her on a regular basis. I am forever thankful for what she has taught and how she was always warm and welcoming through everything I’ve came to her with. There was no judging and no negativity nothing but acceptance and pure Love. ”

“My boyfriend and I really benefited from our couples therapy sessions with Heidi. We needed help communicating and connecting on some major issues we were continuously fighting about, and Heidi was able to help us better understand and listen to each other. She made us consider things we hadn’t, gave us challenging exercises, and helped us finally move forward from some major problems we were having. She was always on time for our sessions, is a great listener, mediator, and a genuinely caring person. Our busy lives have kept us from continuing counseling at the moment but I wish we were still seeing Heidi! ”

Getting to know Heidi Elias

I AM AN OUT-OF-NETWORK PROVIDER. Hello! My name is Heidi Elias, LCSW, SEP. I am a Psychotherapist and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) based in New York City. I work with women who suffer with low self-esteem, anxiety and people pleasing behaviors. I am a Trauma Therapist and incorporate elements of Somatic Experiencing into my work. I have found that some women do not recognize that certain bad behaviors of adult caregivers that were normalized while growing up, were actually abusive. That is where I come in. I offer a safe space for you to express what happened, and together we will work to overcome it. My own experience in psychotherapy helped me understand how to move past childhood trauma. Since gaining this life-changing insight, I made it my mission to help other women to speak their truth, and choose new affirming, empowering behaviors. I am an active participant in therapy sessions, and will prompt you and guide you through the process. I will teach you effective direct communication skills which will aid you to set needed boundaries and assert yourself. Between the hard topics, we will share a good laugh or two. I have been a helping professional and an advocate for individuals living with emotional challenges for over 25 years. After receiving my Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from Hunter College School of Social Work and becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), I opened my psychotherapy practice. Simultaneously, I served as a Caseworker in shelters for homeless women in NYC. Since then, my private practice has been my primary area of focus, though I have also served in another noteworthy role, working as a Program Specialist for the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYCDOHMH). It was there that I served as a liaison between the City and Mental Health programs, ensuring that, among other things, New Yorkers living with mental illness receive quality mental health rehabilitation services.

Heidi is fantastic! I have been working with her for over a year, and I am so thankful for all of her support and guidance. Our conversations helped me cope with heightened anxiety/stress due to COVID-19, and have given me the tools to be a better communicator and continue to improve on my self-growth.
I had never worked with a psychotherapist and decided to give it a try after finding Heidi's website. At the time, I was seeking support, guidance, and encouragement. Heidi is professional, experienced, welcoming, and easy to talk to. I came out of our sessions inspired and armed with tips to make tangible, positive changes in my life. Heidi provided excellent guidance to help me improve my communication skills, develop greater self confidence, and strengthen the relationships in my life, including romantic relationships, professional relationships, and those with friends and family.
Heidi is a phenomenal therapist! I reached out to her in Feb. 2020 and she was able to start seeing me right away, pivoting with remote sessions right away before the actual onset of the pandemic. Having her guidance, feedback, and support to work through family and workplace relationships on top of managing the stress of the pandemic was a life saver. She's incredibly warm and supportive while also able to provide feedback and redirection, which is exactly what I needed. I highly recommend her for anyone who needs talk therapy and is seeking coaching to better themselves and their personal and professional relationships.
Heidi is always so helpful and patient. She really digs deep and ask questions. She has provided me professional advice as well as personal! I’ve noticed so much growth in myself and my personal relationships in just the span of a year.
