Hillary Dorrejo, MS

Hillary Dorrejo, MS

Psychotherapist
928 Broadway, Ste 205, New York, NY
My work centers on helping individuals and couples move through the stuck places—where insight alone hasn’t been enough. I specialize in trauma, anxiety, and relationship distress, with advanced training in EMDR and the Gottman Method. I support people in processing what the body holds, not just what the mind understands—so they can feel safer in their relationships, more at home in themselves, and better able to respond rather than react. I pay close attention to the unspoken: the emotional undercurrents, protective patterns, and survival strategies shaped by family, culture, and early attachment. As a bilingual Latina therapist, I bring a nuanced lens to identity, power, and belonging—offering space for the complexity of your story to unfold. I don't expect you to have it all figured out. We can begin wherever you are.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me means we don’t just talk about your pain—we work with how it lives in your body, your relationships, and the stories you’ve learned to tell yourself to survive. I’ll help you notice the moments you disconnect, shut down, or go silent—not to push you, but to gently ask: what would it be like to stay? You don’t have to perform wellness here. You don’t have to translate your experience to be understood. In our work, we’ll create room for the full truth of who you are—your fear, your strength, your longing—and that’s where real change begins.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Across all sessions, my focus is relational: not just what’s happening in your life, but how you experience others—and yourself—in the process. Sessions are a space to slow down, feel more deeply, and begin to relate in new, more connected ways. Our work will always begin with curiosity. In early sessions, we’ll explore what brings you in—what’s felt hard, what keeps repeating, and what you long for. For individuals, that may include talk therapy to build insight and emotional awareness, along with EMDR to process the experiences your body still holds. We’ll move at your pace, gently working through the emotional weight of the past so you can respond more freely in the present. With couples, I use a mix of structured exercises and open dialogue to help partners break out of painful patterns—whether it's silence, blame, resentment, or disconnection. We'll work toward clearer communication, emotional repair, and a felt sense of safety between you.

  • Sliding scale: Offers lower out-of-pocket fees on an individual basis, typically based on your ability to pay
  • Files your insurance claim: You pay the session fee upfront and the provider files the claim for you, so you can get reimbursed directly without worrying about the paperwork
  • Charges post-reimbursement amount: This provider will only charge you for the amount you pay after you get reimbursed from your insurance plan, so you don’t need to pay the session fee upfront

More information on payments and coverage
