Getting to know Holly Brettell

Hey, I'm Holly! I grew up in Colorado and have worked almost a decade in the field of social work and mental health. I earned my undergraduate degree in Sociology and Psychology from the University of Colorado at Boulder (Go Buffs!) and went on to receive my Master of Social Work from the University of Denver. It can feel so isolating and sometimes even shameful to face challenges in mental health and in relationships. I know that and I see that. My goal is to be able to hold all of these heavy feelings with you, so you aren't alone. Sometimes the most important work for us to do is to say what we are facing out loud and be okay sitting with the discomfort. Life is messy and we can clean it up together. In therapy, I believe that you are in charge, and you get to choose your healing journey and set your goals. What I get to do is witness you and support you in reaching the goals you set. Our time is your time, so you get to decide what we do- whether that's talking about a movie that resonated with you, lyrics that made you cry, or the funny thing that happened to you last week. I welcome you to bring all parts of you and I will be there to meet you with humor, compassion, and care. Throughout my career, I have gained experience in various areas including; child welfare, the legal system, and domestic violence and sexual violence, working with both victims and perpetrators. I specialize in supporting adolescents, family relationships dynamics, life transitions, sexual behavior, and anxiety and depression. I take a collaborative approach with you in addressing these difficulties because I also believe you are the expert in your life, and you know what will work for you and what won't. I look forward to getting to know you and your heart and helping you reach the place you want to be.
