Anxiety, depression, and trauma symptoms are natural reactions to stress, which can create patterns of thinking and behavior that trap people despite their best efforts. I have worked with people from all walks of life to increase awareness of these patterns and create new patterns that support valued and rewarding lives. My approach First, I get to know my clients, not just in terms of their problems, but also their strengths and goals. I collaborate to identify someone's change goals and then help people identify their day-to-day symptom patterns, and then work to regulate strong emotions, react differently to triggers, and reframe thinking that fuels problematic patterns. My focus The ideal client for the type of therapy I use will be interested in changing patterns in their lives. This means being open to a therapeutic relationship and investing time and effort to practice skills we practice in therapy. Not all interventions are 100% for everyone, so being willing to give feedback when something does not help is critical. My communication style At the start of treatment, I will be asking questions to gather information and make a formal diagnosis. I will spend time in the initial sessions describing CBT and essential skills like mood monitoring. As we continue, I will contribute information and guide practice with therapy skills. As we end treatment, we'll make a relapse prevention plan. My journey to mental healthcare We are all in this boat of life together, and psychology was a path for me to help myself and others to get out of our own way and have our best possible lives. My goals for you I like to help define goals in terms of specific outcomes. When problematic thoughts, behaviors, and intense emotions interact to create patterns that block these goals, therapy skills can break up the old pattern and make new ones that help people reach their goals and live in a way that is consistent with their values.
