“I've been seeing Jacquie consistently for over a year and a half and she's the easiest person to talk to. I initially came to her after struggling to find a therapist with the level of empathy and honesty I was looking for, and she was an incredible resource, especially when it came to the loss of a pet. It doesn't matter if a session is heavier, lighter, or just feels like a regular catch up chat; she's always warm and accommodating no matter what. She gets to know her patients really well - I can confidently say this is the most comfortable I've ever felt in therapy, and I've seen an immense amount of progress when it comes to talking about and handling what I'm going through. If you're going to try speaking with someone, let it be Jacquie! You won't regret it.”

“I worked with Jacquie weekly for three years and I'm not sure words will accurately convey the gratitude I have for her abilities as a therapist and level of care and compassion she showed me. Without these factors I would not have been able to navigate a divorce and a brain tumor diagnosis. I am so fortunate I had Jacquie during such a tumultuous time of my life. I will be forever grateful. ”

Getting to know Jacqueline Sixbey

I’ve always believed that people are more than the challenges they are facing. Behind every concern, relationship struggle, or season of uncertainty is a unique individual with their own story, experiences, strengths, and hopes. That belief is at the heart of why I do this work. As a counselor, I feel fortunate to be invited into people’s lives during some of their most difficult, confusing, and meaningful moments. I don’t take that trust lightly. My goal is to create a space where you can feel comfortable being honest, talking openly, and knowing that you will be met with curiosity, respect, and compassion. I especially enjoy helping people navigate relationships and the emotions that often come with them. Whether you are trying to strengthen a relationship, work through conflict, understand patterns that keep repeating, or find a healthy way forward, I believe having someone alongside you can make a difference. My professional education and experience have shaped the counselor I am, but the people I have had the privilege of working with have shaped me just as much. Over the years, their stories have taught me that there is tremendous beauty in our differences and that there is rarely one simple answer to what makes life or relationships work. They have reminded me to stay open-minded, curious, and willing to see each person for who they are. I also believe counseling doesn’t have to feel intimidating or overly clinical. I’m a real person, and I want our conversations to feel genuine and comfortable. There can be difficult conversations, but there can also be laughter, perspective, and moments when things begin to make a little more sense. My hope is that you feel welcomed exactly as you are and leave our work together with a greater understanding of yourself, more clarity about what matters to you, and the confidence to take your next step.

What should a new client know about working with you?

One thing I’ve learned over my years as a counselor is that there is no “right” way to be a person, and there certainly isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. Each person brings their own story, experiences, relationships, strengths, struggles, and hopes for what they want life to look like. Working together, I want to get to know the person behind the problem. I want to hear your story and understand what life looks like from your perspective. You get to decide what you want to talk about, and together we’ll figure out where it makes sense to go from there. I work with people navigating everyday life challenges, particularly relationships of all kinds—partners, family, friendships, and the relationship we have with ourselves. Sometimes the goal is to repair and strengthen a relationship. Sometimes it’s figuring out how to move forward when a relationship has become painful or complicated. Often, anxiety, uncertainty, and difficult emotions come along with those challenges. I see myself as another resource in your life, not someone who has all the answers. I’ll listen, ask questions, offer perspective, and share tools or ideas when they might be helpful. I’m also comfortable laughing with you. I believe there is room for humor in therapy, even when we’re talking about difficult things. Education and professional experience have given me an important foundation, but honestly, some of my greatest teachers have been the incredible people I’ve had the privilege of knowing through my years of practice. Their stories have taught me about resilience, vulnerability, relationships, and the beauty and uniqueness of each individual. They have helped me become better at helping others—and that has been one of the greatest gifts and realizations of my profession. My hope is that you feel comfortable enough to be yourself, know that you won’t be judged, and leave our conversations feeling heard, understood, and perhaps a little more hopeful about what comes next.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I don’t believe therapy should begin with a checklist or a predetermined plan for who you’re supposed to be. It begins with a conversation. Our first conversations are about getting to know you—what brought you to therapy, what is happening in your life, what you’re struggling with, and what you would like to be different. I want to understand not just the problem, but the person experiencing it. We’ll talk about what feels important to you rather than trying to fit your experiences into a formula. From there, we’ll work together to identify what you want to change or understand better. Sometimes that means working through relationship conflict, communication difficulties, anxiety, life transitions, or feeling stuck. Sometimes it means figuring out whether you want to repair a relationship, find a healthier way to stay in it, or discover a way forward. I’ll listen and ask questions, help you look at things from different perspectives, and offer practical ideas and tools when they fit. I may gently challenge you when I think it could help, but I’ll never pretend that I know your life better than you do. You are the expert on your own experiences. Our work may change as you do. Some sessions may be focused on a specific problem or decision, while others may simply give you space to slow down, sort through what you’re feeling, and make sense of what’s happening. We’ll regularly check in about what is helpful and what you need. Most importantly, I want therapy to feel like something we are doing together. My role is to listen, provide perspective, support you through difficult moments, and offer another resource as you work toward the life and relationships you want. The goal isn’t to become someone else—it’s to better understand yourself, make choices that feel right for you, and find a way forward.
