Getting to know Jade Shelton

I am a therapist that specializes in addictive disorders. I work with grief/loss, building structure, 12 step programs and emotional sobriety. I am a veteran, and I would also like to work with veterans struggling with the disease of addiction. I use CBT, solution focused and schema therapy interventions to help a person reach long term sobriety. Addiction is a chronic, relapsing brain disease characterized by compulsive substance seeking and use despite harmful consequences. What should a new client know about working with you?

My ideal client is struggling with managing any addictive disorder. Gambling, substances, sex addiction, food addiction, internet addiction, shopping addiction, codependency etc. My clients usually struggle with triggers, cravings, lack of coping skills, stress management, anger management, anxiety, depression, negative core beliefs and thinking errors. My clients want to achieve structure, stability and freedom from the cycle of relapse.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My first couple of sessions are rapport building and then I work at finding the root of the addiction and forming a plan to help my client reach emotional / long term sobriety.
