Getting to know Jaime Keel

I am a licensed clinical social worker in New York, providing counseling to youth and adults in my community for eight years across both clinical and academic settings. I earned my Master's in Social Work from Syracuse University. As a proud LGBTQAI+ ally and someone committed to becoming an anti-racist, I have developed a deep understanding of the unique struggles faced at the intersections of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and mental health. I believe in a person-centered approach, with a therapeutic style that emphasizes acceptance and relationship building. My approach combines a person-centered framework with evidence-based practices such as CBT, DBT, Positive Psychology, and Mindfulness, applied as appropriate to each individual's needs. I work best with clients who are seeking change and willing to explore and learn more about their diagnosis to fully understand how symptoms impact their lives. Together, we develop a treatment plan tailored to their goals. My communication style is calm, empathetic, and expressive-I often talk with my hands and strive to be positive and upbeat when appropriate. I meet clients where they are, balancing conversation, teaching, and listening depending on the person and situation. Mental health has been my passion since my teenage years. Childhood trauma and witnessing family members struggle with undiagnosed mental illness sparked my desire to learn and understand mental health. As I gained insight into my own experiences, I found it easier to empathize with others' struggles. My counselor became my mentor, inspiring me to follow in her footsteps and specialize in working with teens and young adults affected by trauma. My goal for you is to help you develop new skills and insights for managing symptoms and applying these tools in daily life. Treatment is complete when you feel confident in maintaining your progress and continuing to grow.
