Getting to know Dr. James Noce

Hi there, I'm James! James S. Noce, PhD, ABPP (Board Certified). Licensed clinical psychologist in Florida. I'm retired, but I have loved being a therapist so much that I still do it-now only two days per week. I earned my PhD in Counseling Psychology from The Catholic University of America, which laid the foundation for my approach to therapy. My approach Process-oriented: I believe that an equal partnership between client and therapist is essential to gain insight from the past and to understand current issues or symptoms in the present. The concessions to aging can also be an important issue. Often new coping mechanisms are needed. Most answers to vital questions are already within us. The goal is to engage in a process that will reveal those answers. For that to happen, however, the client must feel safe and trusting of the therapeutic relationship. My focus Senior executives and not-so-senior employees, first responders and combat veterans, those considering job or career changes, those trying to find a partner or leave one, as well as those who have lost one. Ultimately, we all try to have the best time we can while being all too aware that life is about learning how to hurt and be hurt as well as learning how to say hello and goodbye. My communication style Clients may call me Jim, James, or Dr. Noce-whatever works for them. We puzzle through the obvious and then the not-so-obvious to understand what is going on. Then we make a plan. My journey to mental healthcare It was the natural thing to do. I was an intelligent, empathic, and screwed-up kid. Like many therapists, I had the basic training of trying to be normal in an abnormal family. My goals for you What is the problem? What are the possible solutions? Which one(s) best fit the client? My first session with you More hope and optimism leaving than you had when arriving.
