Getting to know James Weitzer

I work with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma — including performing artists, college students, and those in the middle of life transitions that feel bigger than expected. I'm also deeply committed to supporting the LGBTQIA+ community, people of color, and anyone who has felt misunderstood or pushed to the margins - you deserve a space where you don't have to explain yourself first. When society tells us to handle everything on our own, asking for help can feel like failure. That shame only makes the loneliness worse. We're wired for connection - and when we lose it, we lose ourselves a little, too.

What should a new client know about working with you?

With three decades of acting experience, I bring something unusual to this work. After years of inhabiting characters with pre-written arcs, I now have the privilege of sitting with people who are ready to write — and rewrite — their own story. I know what it means to search for the truth in a role, and what's gained when you find it. I'd be honored to support you as you find yours.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I've been practicing for five years, working with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and the kind of life transitions that arrive without warning or instruction. My collaborative approach draws on psychodynamic, Internal Family Systems, and person-centered therapy. In practice, that means I'm less interested in fitting you into a framework and more interested in understanding how you work — what you carry, where it came from, and what it might feel like to set some of it down. I believe the therapeutic relationship itself is where healing happens. Techniques are important, but nothing matches the experience of being genuinely seen by another person. That's what I'm here to offer. If something here resonates, I'd love to hear from you.
