UpLift Behavioral Health providers do not issue prescriptions for substances controlled by any federal or state agency or other drugs that may be harmful because of their potential for abuse. UpLift Behavioral Health reserves the right to limit the types of medications that may be prescribed by its doctors and nurse practitioners. All prescriptions furnished by UpLift Behavioral Health care providers are issued in accordance with applicable federal and state law as well as UpLift Behavioral Health policy. My approach to assisting clients is strength-based, person-centered, and solution-focused. I find it essential to meet clients where they are and help them process and decide what they hope to focus on. Being a source of support, acceptance, and trust are qualities I strongly value and contribute to the counseling relationship. As a woman and a person of color, it is extremely important for me to truly consider how one’s cultural background can impact the counseling process. I want my clients to feel heard and seen; I want them to find their voices and begin breaking the cycle of generational trauma that may show up in their lives. I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Bachelor’s degree from St. John’s University, which have both shaped my understanding and approach to counseling.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to assisting clients is strength-based, person-centered, and solution-focused. I find it is essential to meet a client where they are and assist them in processing and deciding what they hope to focus on. Being a source of support, acceptance, and trust are qualities that I strongly value and contribute to the counseling relationship. Obtaining some background information and ideas about what the client would like to accomplish is where I like to start the counseling relationship. Being a woman and a person of color, it is extremely important for me to truly consider how one’s cultural background can impact the counseling process. It is my hope that my clients feel heard and seen; I want them to find their voices and be able to start the process of breaking generational trauma that might show up in their lives. It is my goal to provide a safe space for my clients where they don’t fear judgment and are able to be their authentic selves.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My focus during the initial stages of therapy is establishing a therapeutic relationship based on empathy and trust. Then, we’ll work toward collaboration and creating goals based on the client’s needs. As time progresses (and the client agrees), I like to use various interventions and encourage journaling and other insight-oriented activities.
