Getting to know Jason Walter

There are many approaches to psychotherapy. Some techniques focus solely on insight and history without targeting specific issues for change. Others aim to identify and address behavioral concerns but do not pave the way for growth with empathy and compassion. In the former, patients feel soothed and understood but ultimately frustrated by a lack of change, unsure how to break free of their problematic patterns. In the latter, patients can feel as though they are following one-size-fits-all instructions and develop feelings of shame over their challenges, not understanding the origins of their issues. I believe therapy should work on both fronts by directly addressing a patient's concerns while also fostering a gentler, more understanding relationship with themselves. My approach is compassionate and direct. Through treatment, my patients make meaningful changes in their lives, fueled by the cultivation of greater insight and self-empathy. I use a wide range of clinical techniques, including cognitive behavioral, relational, and psychoanalytically oriented models. I tailor treatment to each patient's unique needs while staying up-to-date with the latest scientific research and cutting-edge interventions. I have successfully treated individuals for anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, anger management, and challenges related to work, career, dating, and relationships, as well as couples seeking help with communication and conflict resolution. I hold a Master's in Social Work from New York University, which has provided a strong foundation for my clinical practice and ongoing commitment to evidence-based care.

Jason is a fantastic professional and the work that we have done in session is exactly what therapy should be. If you are a believer in the process, you will not be disappointed. I look to therapy as a means of building better tools to negotiate the challenges of my life with grace and generosity. This is absolutely happening for me. I have now been a participant in Jason's practice for over a year. The things that I have learned, and the insights that I have gained, continue to help me navigate new territories in my home, job, and creative pursuits. I am happier than I have ever been at this moment. This sounds like hyperbole, but I think it is true, because the work I have done with Jason has made me see how everything that challenges me is all so interconnected. I've been excited to realize that improvements from this work are not cumulative, but exponential. A breakthrough at home, yields a watershed at work, and this is often accompanied by added personal ease, and a reduction in stress. I am continually surprised at Jason's ability to reframe a life challenge in a way that makes it manageable and no longer insurmountable. I was delighted to discover that he is a trained composer and musician, and this perspective has proven to be indispensable to me as a creative person who also works in the arts. Jason is not dogmatic or harsh. He is quietly neutral and judgement-free. He is a gentle person. I came to him needing a kind, generous spirit to help me pick through the thicket of challenges that my current life and past have created. He has done this for me, without pushing me deeper into the brambles, and while simultaneously illuminating the tools that help me attend to my own wounds.

Jason was calming and attentive, and very knowledgeable about the issues I brought up. In our first session he asked really useful questions and laid the groundwork for things for us to work on in the future. I look forward to continuing sessions with him! Also, booking an appointment was efficient and easy.

Jason has been working with me for about a year and half as my therapist. He is very perceptive and compassionate which makes it easy to be able to openly speak about things on mind with him. Therapy sessions with him are very engaging and he invites you to look at experiences and thoughts in a very objective manner without being harsh on yourself. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for psychotherapy.

Dr. Walter is a very effective therapist, combining good listening skills with astute observations and insightfulness. He helps add perspective to cotidian occurances/issues. Would enthusiastically recommend to others.
Extremely helpful. I felt listened to. I felt I could trust them and that what I said was confidential and my privacy respected. The process is tough but Jason is in my corner and therefore the process is illuminating and gratifying. I am changing patterns of behavior for the better and I am much more aware of how I take in and deal with difficult emotions/feelings/experiences. Very grateful.
I was very pleased with my first visit. Jason zeroed in on key elements of the issues that I discussed. He also suggested strategies to explore in future sessions that I am very confident will help me.
I was able to schedule an appointment and get the insurance and everything out of the way before even going. He was very intelligent and professional and I will be going back next week!
