Jeremiah Hackett, LCSW

Jeremiah Hackett, LCSW

Psychotherapist
NY
I work with college-aged men and young professionals. My clients are typically concerned about their relationships, behaviors or moods. Most are being encouraged by loved ones to talk to someone. Many are facing legal problems or financial problems connected to a pattern of behaviors. Talking really can help. Speaking without censorship to a compassionate, interested listener is a timeless process. It helps us see and think differently. It disrupts rigid and uncharitable ways of thinking. It can help bring us relief.

Getting to know Jeremiah Hackett

I work with college-aged men and young professionals. My clients are typically concerned about their relationships, behaviors or moods. Most are being encouraged by loved ones to talk to someone. Many are facing legal problems or financial problems connected to a pattern of behaviors. Talking really can help. Speaking without censorship to a compassionate, interested listener is a timeless process. It helps us see and think differently. It disrupts rigid and uncharitable ways of thinking. It can help bring us relief.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My style is direct, structured, and practical. Most people come in dealing with something active—legal issues, school disruption, a relationship breakdown, or a situation that escalated quickly. We focus on getting clear on where things stand and what needs to happen next. I’m not passive and I don’t rely on vague insight alone. Sessions are conversational but purposeful. I ask straightforward questions, give clear feedback, and keep us moving toward decisions and actions that reduce risk and stabilize the situation. You can expect a balance of accountability and respect—steady, not confrontational. I also treat the work as something that can be tracked. We keep a clear record of what’s happening, what’s changing, and what steps you’re taking. Over time, this creates a visible throughline—useful for your own clarity and, when relevant, for outside contexts that require documentation. If you’re looking for something open-ended or purely exploratory, this may feel more structured than that. If you want to get oriented quickly, understand your options, and make steady progress, this approach tends to fit well.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I start with a focused intake to understand what’s happening now—what led up to it, what’s at risk, and what needs to stabilize first. That includes a clear timeline, current pressures (legal, academic, financial, relational), and any prior history that matters. From there, we identify immediate priorities and outline a practical plan. Sessions are structured and direct. We work on stabilizing behavior, reducing risk, and getting clear on next steps. That may include decision-making under pressure, preparing for legal or institutional processes, and addressing patterns that contributed to the situation. I use a straightforward, conversational style and keep the work grounded in real circumstances. A core part of the process is tracking. Sessions function as an ongoing record—what happened, what changed, what decisions were made, and what follows next. Over time, this creates a clear picture of progress: patterns become visible, improvements are documented, and setbacks are put in context. This can be useful both for the client’s own clarity and, when needed, for accurate, straightforward documentation of participation. Some clients work with me for a defined period tied to a specific situation; others continue longer to address underlying patterns once things have stabilized.
