Getting to know Jeremy Litfin

Jeremy Litfin is a New York State Licensed Mental Health Counselor with more than 10 years of experience helping adults navigate anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, ADHD, social anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, and major life transitions. He works especially well with professionals and others who are thoughtful, driven, and accustomed to handling challenges independently, but who may find themselves feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure of how to move forward. Jeremy's therapeutic style is direct, participatory, practical, and collaborative. He believes therapy should provide a space where clients feel understood while also helping them take meaningful steps toward change. His approach is grounded in evidence-based treatment and primarily draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, and Person-Centered Therapy. He helps clients recognize patterns contributing to their challenges, clarify what matters to them, and develop strategies they can apply in everyday life. Jeremy has particular experience supporting clients with anxiety, ADHD, burnout, confidence concerns, depression, men's mental health, social anxiety, panic, substance use concerns, relationship difficulties, and life transitions. Rather than simply talking about problems, he works collaboratively with clients to establish meaningful goals and break challenges into manageable steps. Outside of therapy, Jeremy enjoys history, sports, meteorology, and creativity in everyday life. As a parent, he also values balance, patience, and showing up for the people who matter most. His goal is to help clients develop greater insight, confidence, and practical skills while building a life that feels more manageable, meaningful, and fulfilling.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Welcome to Therapy with Jeremy Litfin Starting therapy doesn't mean you need to have everything figured out. Many of the people I work with are thoughtful, motivated, and accustomed to solving problems on their own. Yet even highly capable people can reach a point where stress, anxiety, burnout, relationship difficulties, or major life changes become difficult to navigate alone. My approach is practical, collaborative, direct, and participatory. I want therapy to be a place where you feel understood and supported while also making meaningful progress. We'll work together to identify what's keeping you stuck, understand patterns that may be contributing to your challenges, and develop realistic strategies for moving forward. I primarily draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, and Person-Centered Therapy. Depending on your needs, our work may focus on changing unhelpful thought or behavioral patterns, increasing psychological flexibility, strengthening coping skills, clarifying your values, and turning insight into practical action. I work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, burnout, social anxiety, panic, low self-esteem, men's mental health concerns, substance use concerns, relationship difficulties, and life transitions. Therapy with me is not simply about discussing what's wrong. It's about understanding yourself more clearly, identifying meaningful goals, and breaking challenges into manageable steps. My goal is to help you develop practical tools and greater confidence so you can create lasting change and build a life that feels more manageable and fulfilling.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Initial Consultation We begin by discussing what brings you to therapy, the challenges you're experiencing, and what you hope will be different as a result of our work together. Understanding Your Experience We'll explore relevant experiences, relationships, stressors, strengths, and patterns that may be contributing to how you're feeling today. Setting Meaningful Goals Together, we'll identify realistic goals based on what matters most to you and break larger challenges into manageable steps. Creating a Personalized Approach Therapy is tailored to your needs. I primarily integrate CBT, ACT, Motivational Interviewing, and Person-Centered Therapy. Identifying Patterns We'll examine thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and habits that may contribute to anxiety, depression, burnout, low confidence, or relationship difficulties. Building Practical Skills You'll develop strategies for managing stress, regulating emotions, challenging unhelpful patterns, improving confidence, and navigating difficult situations. Taking Action Rather than only talking about problems, we'll identify practical ways to apply what you learn in therapy to everyday life. Working Collaboratively My style is direct and participatory. We'll actively work together while maintaining a supportive environment where you can speak openly. Reviewing Progress We'll regularly evaluate what's working, recognize progress, and adjust our approach when your needs or goals change. Moving Forward My goal is to help you develop the insight, confidence, and practical tools needed to navigate challenges independently and create lasting, meaningful change.
