What should a new client know about working with you?

Expect a flexible, integrative approach that thrives on a person-centered modality, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) interventions, integrations of mindfulness, and more. As your counselor, I will support you to the point where you will be equipped to face your issues in-and-out of the counseling space. I have worked with many different clients throughout my time in the field, ranging from children, adults, and elderly, with a variety of diagnoses and circumstances. Specifically, I have experience with clients with symptoms of anxiety, depression, adjustment disorder, traumatic experiences, and those with comorbid diagnoses. I have been working in the field for over four years, and I have worked with diverse populations, in which I bring in much experience for. Those years of experience consist of providing more hands-on work with children on the autism spectrum utilizing art and plat therapy, I have then worked with many adults via telehealth with varying diagnoses and backgrounds, and I have worked with clients with SMI (Serious Mental Illness) in an in-person setting. I found that working with these populations has been such a valuable experience for me, as I have become much more versatile of a counselor, as well as a more empathetic and understanding human being.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Though sessions can vary based on the needs of the client, I would typically start them off with a mindfulness session or a review to get the client oriented into the session and then would follow up with a recap of what was discussed a session prior and ask if there was any change or progress made. Throughout the rest of the session, my involvement would be dictated by the direction of the session, as some clients search for more guidance, while some have planned out their session already. I also am willing to utilize silence as a step towards comfortability and rapport within the session. These expectations would be gauged upon the first few sessions to find out what the client wants out of a talk therapy session, and if they want their counselor to be more of a guide or a listener. Those first few sessions also give a greater understanding as to what modality is best for the client, given their current predicament. Gathering this information gives foresight as to what interventions are beneficial for the client when transitioning into later sessions.
