Hi, I’m Jiexuan, a licensed therapist in the state of New York (License number: 011279) and New Jersey (License number: 37PC01003300). I’m glad you’re here. I grew up in China and graduated from Columbia University with a degree in counseling. I speak Mandarin, English, and Cantonese and have experience providing therapy in all three languages. I identify as an integrative therapist and practice from a variety of evidence-based models, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). I also utilize a gentle, body-based therapeutic method called Lifespan Integration (LI) for the treatment of trauma. In LI therapy, clients are guided to revisit their past experiences without having to talk too much about their traumatic memory. This method has been shown to rapidly process trauma experiences without retraumatizing.

What should a new client know about working with you?

In my professional life, I have had the privilege of working with individuals ranging in age from 14 to 82 from diverse backgrounds and have solid experience in addressing complex struggles such as depression, anxiety, substance use, childhood trauma, relationship stressors, and life transitions. I firmly believe that everyone has the inherent capacity to heal and access their inner wisdom. I strive to bring my authentic self to the work to create a safe, accepting, and compassionate therapy space. I am particularly passionate about helping client heal from low self-esteem and feelings of inadequacy. It is normal that we tend to hold deeply internalized judgments about ourselves when our family, culture, or society somehow tells us that we are “not good enough” for this or that. As an Asian cis-woman, first-generation immigrant, and ally to the LGBTQIA+ community, I deeply understand the challenge of building a strong sense of self-worth while managing minority stress and navigating systematic inequality. We will work together to explore possible roots of the pain with curiosity, heal on both heart and head level, and build compassionate connection with our mind and body.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In the initial several sessions, we will work together to explore sources of stress, identify specific goals you would like to achieve, and evaluate our progress ongoingly and collaboratively. It is important to me that you feel safe in the therapy space and could walk away with some relief from current stressors or increased insights into yourself.
