Getting to know John D. Young

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Virginia with over three decades of experience working with adults in a variety of settings. I hold a Master's in Social Work from the University of North Carolina. I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Counseling, focusing on depression, anxiety, trauma, and anger. I also address the needs of patients who are struggling with a family member dealing with addiction to alcohol or drug use. My focus is on providing clients with an opportunity to develop healthy coping skills that empower them to manage their own emotions and feelings and work on a recovery plan that helps them move forward successfully from painful or challenging emotions or experiences. I practice on a part-time basis, offering sessions Sunday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Fridays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. I provide therapy exclusively via telehealth, which allows me to serve patients located anywhere in the state of Virginia. I enjoy the telehealth platform and the flexibility it offers to help a wide variety of patients. I am currently located near Harrisonburg, VA.

What should a new client know about working with you?

In the first session I will discuss with you the reason for seeking therapy and specifics about what type of issues you would like to address in therapy. I obtain the patients social and family history, prior behavioral health treatment history, medical and substance abuse history if applicable. I work with my patients to begin to identify the various strategies to be used in a treatment plan and at the end of the first session will normally provide handouts and materials that will assist in giving the patient some information on the treatment strategies that they will be using in achieving their treatment goals.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
