Dr. Johna Hansen, LCSW, PhD

Psychotherapist
NY
I work with people who believe they are feeling anxious, sad, angry, or overwhelmed, or who have experienced trauma. Often, people in these situations are in a place where they may be wondering about their feelings and desiring a change. We all have times when we look for direction or guidance on tough issues we face throughout our lives. I stand closely beside people as they address these issues, offering empathy and support along the way. Throughout the process of therapy, clients gain a better sense of their strengths and abilities so they may better understand their personal relationships, career goals, and daily interactions with others. I use Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), an evidence-based therapeutic approach designed by Dr. Albert Ellis. REBT is a direct and challenging therapy that helps clients discover their unhealthy beliefs and change them to healthy beliefs in order to reach their goals of experiencing healthier behaviors and emotions. Additionally, I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. I maintain a private practice in two locations: Midtown West and Midtown East in Manhattan. As an experienced Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a PhD in Social Service from Fordham University and trained in Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), I am able to provide direct, compassionate care for people, helping them come to a place of increased confidence and motivation moving forward.
