Joi Acuna, LMHC, LPC

Psychotherapist
VA
Hi! I am Joi I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a Master’s in Clinical Counseling from the University of Northern Colorado (2012). Over the years, I have worked within the Behavioral Health Department at Kaiser Permanente and served as a Social Emotional Health Coordinator supporting elementary and middle school students. I have since established my private practice, North Star Wellness, where I provide therapy to clients navigating complex emotions and life challenges. My specialties include family relationships, grief and bereavement, life transitions, multicultural and diversity experiences, perinatal support (pregnancy, prenatal, postpartum), intimate and romantic relationships, sex and intimacy concerns, spirituality, anxiety, depression, stress, anger management, ADHD, and LGBTQIA+ support. I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental space where clients feel seen and heard, where we can explore emotions, thoughts, and beliefs shaped by your unique experiences. Outside of my work as a therapist, I’m a regular person navigating the challenges of life and my own ongoing journey of self-understanding. Like many, I’m exploring questions of meaning and purpose. My North Star—my guiding principle—is the belief that insight and growth can be found not only in painful questions, but also in lighthearted moments, curiosity, and everything in between. As a provider, it is an honor to voyage alongside you—not just through pain and struggle, but through growth, achievement, and the ordinary experiences that shape your story. Therapy can be an exploration of what matters to you: the books you read, the movies you love, your social media algorithms, your creative outlets, and all the little pieces that make you who you are. Every part of you is valued, acknowledged, and appreciated—if you’re ready to embark on a journey of healing and growth, I invite you to reach out so we can work together to create a path forward that feels right for you. Engage ;)
