Getting to know Jonathan Douglas

My name is Jonathan Douglas, and I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of Washington, actively pursuing licensure in California. I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of behavioral healthcare settings, including non-profit organizations and private practice. A major focus of my work has been managing individuals in crisis, supporting those who have experienced trauma, helping develop healthy coping skills to manage anxiety and depression, and reducing overall life stress. I hold both a master's degree in Counseling Psychology, with training as a School Counselor, and a bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Ethnic Studies from Central Washington University. Go Wildcats! I have been trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which integrates aspects of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and I have a foundational understanding of the role trauma plays in the presentation of various mental health concerns. I take pride in offering a trauma-informed approach and recognize the importance of acknowledging culturally relevant factors that may exacerbate current life stressors.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I have over 15-years of experience in the behavioral health setting. With over eight years of direct clinical therapeutic practice in both the community mental health and private practice settings, serving clients of diverse social, cultural, and economic backgrounds. My career experiences have allowed me the opportunity to provide crisis services including evaluating psychiatric hospitalization, crisis case management services, case management services for college-aged individuals, and community care management. As a mental health therapist, I work with individuals at various stages of life. Using a strength-based systems approach, I consider all of the diverse factors impacting my clients and the strengths they bring with them to therapy. I use a variety of techniques from a range of therapeutic modalities, including Solution Focused, Experiential, Emotionally Focused, and Narrative therapy. I work collaboratively with clients to discover existing skills and develop achievable goals to address challenges such as relationship issues, family conflict, communication issues, loss, grief, depression, anxiety, trauma and PTSD, anger and stress management, self-esteem, and life changes and transitions. Through my variety of experiences, I continue to feel encouraged and motivated to provide care to individuals to help manage life stressors. I’m honored to be considered your therapist, and I humbly look forward to working with you through this therapeutic journey.
