Getting to know Jonathan Wallis

Therapy is a unique relationship between a therapist (i.e., a mental health professional) – and a client where you can expect to be listened to, understood, supported, and challenged by me. By exploring your life history and lived experience, greater self-understanding and insight can develop which can lead to changes in behaviors, thoughts, and feelings and positive improvements in life. This insight combined with new approaches (tools, skills sets, behaviors) applied in your life - something we will work on - often lead to progress in therapy. My aim is to assist you on your journey of healing and growth by sourcing and blending psychological theory (see modalities below), my training, and my own life experiences. I’m in my fifth year of practice. I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Washington State and NY State About me - Some of my restorative practices include running, reading, meditation, hiking, and spending time with family and community. I started my education at Seattle Central College on Capitol Hill, Seattle and transferred to Washington State University in Pullman, WA, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2018. In 2021, I graduated from Seattle University (2019-2021) with a Master of Arts in Psychology. I graduated from Antioch University in 2023 with a Post-Master's Certificate in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. * In-network (Premera, LifeWise, Blue Cross Blue Shield) cost is $150 per session. **Out-of-network standard rate is $180 per session in NY State and $150 in WA State.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I value the connection I have with my clients. This collaboration is a primary factor for progress in therapy. I aim to be supportive when it is necessary and to be guiding/challenging when it is necessary. I’m informed by a handful of disciplines/theories which are listed below. Humanistic therapy Existential-Phenomenological therapy Mindfulness Psychoanalytic/psychodynamic psychotherapy Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT) Focusing Cognitive Behavioral therapy

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Sessions are generally conversational and centered on your experience. The initial phase of therapy - the first 2 or 3 sessions - are typically utilized to assess and gather information from a variety of domains in your life. We then collaboratively set a goal (or goals) for what it is that needs to be addressed in therapy. This is not intended to confine what the therapy will consist of, rather it is intended to keep the treatment focused.
