“Jorge is extremely understanding and compassionate! He was easy to open up to. He never judges and he knows how to challenge me in a warm and empathetic way. I truly feel seen in my work with him. That says a lot because I’ve been through a handful of therapist in my past. I highly recommend Jorge anytime someone asks me about therapy. ”

Getting to know Jorge Calixto

As an integrative and psychodynamically oriented clinician, I create a safe and trusting therapeutic space where change, growth, and recovery occur. It's a non-judgmental environment where you can be your authentic self and freely express and explore your feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. Whether you know exactly what you want to work on or you know you need change but don't know where to start, I can help. There are numerous avenues to work through life's hurdles, and my job is to help you figure out which path is best for you. It is never too late to make a change, and my goal is to help you live a happier, healthier, and more fulfilling life, free of unhelpful beliefs, behaviors, and emotional distress. I believe it is important to meet people where they are and in each person's ability to make the change they want to see. My approach to therapy is integrative, tailoring our sessions to your unique needs and where you are in your journey while exploring your emotions, your relationship with them, and how this impacts your relationships. We will work collaboratively to develop the skills needed to navigate your current issues while also delving into your past to discover the root causes of your challenges. I am equipped to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds and a wide range of issues, including depression, anxiety, stress, panic, trauma, addiction and maladaptive coping mechanisms, interpersonal trauma, emerging adults struggling with life transitions, and individuals from communities where mental health is stigmatized or unacknowledged. I earned my Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Brooklyn College, City University of New York, and completed my clinical internship at the Addiction Institute at Mount Sinai West. I have also worked in community mental health for years, serving a wide range of clients and offering sessions in both English and Spanish.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I center your needs in treatment and will adjust accordingly to you with my method and approach. There is no one size-fits-all approach here and I am curious to learn how our process will unfold together.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I practice talk therapy and let the session unfold however you need it to by meeting you where you are at.

Very insightful and compassionate therapist!
Jorge is extremely understanding and compassionate! He was easy to open up to. He never judges and he knows how to challenge me in a warm and empathetic way. I truly feel seen in my work with him. That says a lot because I’ve been through a handful of therapist in my past. I highly recommend Jorge anytime someone asks me about therapy.
The changes I have seen in myself since I started therapy with him are extremely noticeable, I am immensely happy. He is very understanding, patient and empathetic. And a super plus is that he speaks English and Spanish. Los cambios que he visto en mi desde que empecé terapia con el son extremadamente notorios, estoy inmensamente feliz. El es muy comprensivo, paciente y empático. Y un súper plus es que habla inglés y español.
I couldn’t ask for a better therapist! Each of my meetings is a chance for me to reflect on my feelings and my week. He is great at listening while also guiding me to talk about certain subjects. Even on quieter weeks I am still able to reflect and manage my anxiety better due to our conversations. I could not more highly recommend a therapist to speak with. Not to mention he is very flexible and understanding given my often last minute schedule.
Jorge is an excellent therapist and a great listener. I have been working with him for 18 months now, and our progress with my mental health has been outstanding! I feel like my social anxiety (which got really bad during the pandemic because of the lockdowns) has completely gone away, and my self-sabotaging (negative thoughts) is also way better. He has given me many valuable insights during our sessions. I went from being completely alone, with no-one but a roommate that I didn’t really like, to now being in a happy relationship with someone who I have shared goals and visions for the future with, as well as being surrounded by people who support me and care about me. Jorge is awesome and I highly recommend working with him.
