Getting to know Joshua Intrator

I am a Licensed Creative Art Therapist with a BFA in Film/Television from New York University and a MPS in Art Therapy from School of Visual Arts. I have spent my career working with a wide spectrum of clients of varying ages, racial, ethnic, gender and sexual identities using both talk and art therapy to help address issues such as depression, anxiety and trauma.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Therapy is not a luxury, but rather an important component in aiding growth and taking up space in the world. While my background is in art therapy, I take a holistic approach, integrating elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Attachment Theory, and Humanistic Therapy to best suit a client's needs. My approach is highly strength based, person-centered ,and client guided. I believe that the keystone of all growth is building an accepting, non-judgemental and open therapeutic relationship and I work hard to create that space for my clients..

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In sessions with me, clients can expect a warm, open and accepting environment in which we will work to set goals, explore and process past trauma and build a stronger sense of self. While my specialty is art therapy, I have extensive experience facilitating talk therapy and art may be used as much as little as a client feels comfortable with. No previous art making experience is required.
