“Julia is wonderful! She is incredibly attentive, engaged, and thoughtful. She strikes a great balance of asking questions and challenging my thoughts. She remembers details well and often references things I mentioned in earlier sessions. I leave almost every session feeling like I have new understanding of myself and have felt myself process my feelings and grow more confident even with just a couple months. I have had a couple therapists and she is definitely the best at giving me space to think but also nudging me when necessary. Would definitely recommend!”

Getting to know Julia Laplaza

Being a young adult today comes with unique challenges - constant change, high expectations, and pressure to “figure it all out.” You might feel stuck in anxiety, unsure about your next steps, or weighed down by relationship or family stress. Maybe you’re struggling to balance it all - school, work, friendships, family, and you’re finding it hard to feel grounded in the middle of it. I specialize in supporting young adults as they navigate this complex stage of life. Whether you're facing anxiety, complicated family dynamics, relationship struggles, or the stress of increased responsibilities, I’m here to help you make sense of what you’re feeling and find a path forward. I hold a Master's in Mental Health Counseling from the City University of New York, Baruch, which has equipped me with the skills to support you effectively. Whether this is your first time in therapy or a recent stressor has led you to seek support, I will work to ensure you feel heard, understood, and safe. I believe therapy is a collaborative process where we unite your past and present to help you work through your challenges toward a healthier, happier future. I place great emphasis on creating a warm and welcoming therapeutic environment that allows you to be your most authentic self.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Through my work with college students and young adults in the workforce, I have been successful in helping clients find relief from painful past experiences and overcome barriers towards meeting their goals. In our work together you will be able to discover new insights about yourself and get to the root of your challenges. My goal is to help you regain control of your life and see long term change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I utilize a combination of Psychodynamic Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help young adults struggling with anxiety, depression, and difficult relationships gain the confidence and understanding to meet their goals and begin to feel “unstuck.” By utilizing both of these therapies together, I can tailor therapy to what you specifically need as a client so that you can feel prioritized and seen, and begin to feel the relief that you are looking for. You are not alone, we can tackle this together. I am here to support you. Schedule a consultation call to begin your therapy journey.

Julia is a great therapist! I always feel heard during our sessions, and her voice is very soothing :) She is very kind, and I'm super appreciative of the fact that she doesn't push me to do things I don't feel comfortable doing and it feels like I can heal at my own pace and be myself around her.
I have been seeing Julia for over 3 years now. When she left her old practice, I was heartbroken and was so happy to see she moved somewhere where I was able to be a client. Julia has helped me through grief and my anxiety and while doing so she has helped me become a better person. She has such amazing bedside manner and truly listens before giving a well crafted response. I have been able to manage my day to day life and anxiety better thanks to her. She truly is the best there is.
All of my visits with Julia have been amazing experiences. I’ve never done therapy before and was skeptical at first, but after one session I walked away with so much more knowledge and insight. Julia is personable, punctual, and professional. She has a very warm soothing voice that makes you feel comfortable and welcomed. I’ve learned a lot about myself from my sessions and she always leaves me with something to think about on the way out. I’d recommend her to anyone that’s new to therapy and wants to give it a try.
Julia is a pleasure to work with and her empathetic nature makes her approach to treating symptoms of anxiety and depression very effective. Julia is amazing at making people feel seen and heard which opens the door to incredible opportunities of growth and deeper understanding for her clients.
Julia is a compassionate and reflective therapist. I felt heard by her, she genuinely cared about what I shared with her, and shared some very insightful perspectives. thanks julia
